Christmas Movies

Our out of town company (Round 1) is still here, and the guys went hunting yesterday. They didn’t get a deer, which doesn’t surprise me, since it’s so warm here. It’s not really hunting weather, not when it gets up to around 75º during the day πŸ™„ I think they had a good time though, and then we all watched Monday Night Football when they got back.

Before they got back, though, I had a chance to pop in a Christmas movie and have a little girl time. Believe it or not, I had never seen “White Christmas”. It’s my sister Gail‘s favorite Christmas movie, I think, so I thought I would buy it and watch it. Well. It was a good movie, but it really wasn’t very Christmas-y! I think that’s the case with a lot of the older Christmas movies that they might have come out at Christmas or maybe had one Christmas scene in them, but they aren’t really all that Christmas-y. Tim will never watch “White Christmas” with me, that’s for sure. Too much singing and dancing in it for him!

I also own “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “The Bishop’s Wife” on DVD and I must say, I think I like those movies better as Christmas movies. Those still are my two favorites. I also really like Holiday Inn (but I don’t own that one on DVD, maybe next year!) and I like to catch “Christmas in Connecticut” on TV when it comes on. We also saw “The Polar Express” on TV a week or so ago and it was good.

So, that’s today’s Question of the Day: Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? One that you watch every year? One that really says “Christmas” to you, for whatever reason. Leave me a comment and let me know!

  1. Claire Said,

I don’t know that I have a favorite Christmas movie, but my mom really likes the Santa Clause. We watch that one quite often. I like watching the Hallmark Christmas movies and, sometimes, even the Lifetime CHRISTMAS movies (they aren’t lifetime movies at all!).

  2. deb Said,

I haven’t watched a single Christmas movie yet but I like first The Santa Clause movie with Tim Allen πŸ™‚

    Polar Express is awesome!

  3. Jim McKee Said,

Hmmm… any reason why my mouse scroll wheel won’t work on your site???

  4. Shawna Said,

My long time favorite is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase, and my new favorite is Elf.

  5. Dawn Said,

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is my favorite. followed closely by the George C Scott version of “A Christmas Carol.”

  6. Susie Said,

I’m not usually one for old movies, but I make a point to watch the original “Miracle on 34th Street” every year during the Christmas season. The part where Santa talks to the adopted Dutch girl in her native language… well, I can even type about it without getting teary! πŸ™‚

My hubby and his mom watch “White Christmas” every Christmas morning while I’m still sleeping. I watched it once, and I must agree with Tim – way too much singing and dancing for me! πŸ˜‰

  7. Laura Said,

White Christmas is my favorite, but it’s one of the few movies K won’t watch with me, so I have to sneak it in. Fortunately my mom put it on at her house the other night while we were wrapping. πŸ˜‰ It’s even better listening to the commentary by Rosemary Clooney.
This week I have watched Christmas Vacation (a classic), Muppet Christmas Carol (really glad I squeezed that one in, i LOVE it), and The Santa Clause (haven’t seen the sequels yet but I really enjoy the original).
Also this season I have watched While You Were Sleeping, The Family Man, and You’ve Got Mail, which aren’t about Christmas at all but are set around that time of year. I really love those three, they are probably my favorite “romantic” movies.

  8. Gail Said,

Well, my girls and I like singing and dancing I suppose is why we like it! I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite Christmas movie though (even though I consider it a Christmas movie).
My all time favorite would have to be It’s a Wonderful Life! That is the best movie and it’s hard to go wrong with it!
I’m not sure if I’ve seen Holiday Inn or Bishop’s Wife, might have to borrow them from you…if you don’t need them between when E comes home and when you get here maybe she could bring them. But I can always get them later too if you are watching them.
oops, you don’t have Holiday Inn I don’t guess, will have to look elsewhere!

  9. Debi Said,

I think my all-time favorite is probably It’s a Wonderful Life. I don’t have one that I watch every year though. I like White Christmas (the one with Bing Crosby) though I normally don’t really go for musicals. But It’s a Wonderful Life is probably my favorite.

  10. Southern Girl Said,

Oh, I have MANY! Both old and new — “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Elf,” “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “Miracle on 34th Street” (both versions), “A Christmas Story,” “Holiday Inn,” and “A Christmas Carol.” : )

  11. rach Said,

I like several movies like Miracle on 34th Street, The Nutcracker Prince and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

  12. Cam Said,

Definitely “A Christmas Story”! We have it on it all day & night both Christmas Eve & Christmas.

I didn’t know that about “White Christmas”! Interesting!

  13. Jen Said,

We have started a new tradition of watching “Love Actually” while wrapping presents. This is definitely my FAVORITE Christmas movie. I love romantic comedies and this one has so many great actors and cute storylines. It is pretty funny, too. Warning: This isn’t a family friendly movie, but a good adults only date night kind of flick. LOVE IT!!!
