Completed Fall Reading Challenge

Fall Reading Challenge, 200612/21/06 UPDATE: I posted this original entry below back in November. I just completed a new post, where I answered the questions Katrina posted in her blog, at the top of my blog. You can click here to read that one with my answers 🙂

I finished the last book on my list for the Fall Reading Challenge last night. Woo-hoo, it’s nice to reach a goal! I had originally picked 10 fiction books to read, and ended up adding one more that I found at the library, so I have completed all 11 books on my list. Several of these were sitting on my bookshelves, waiting to be read, so this challenge really helped me read books I have bought, and not buy more books. 😀

Last night I finished “Confessions of a Shopaholic” by Sophie Kinsella, which I really enjoyed. I had read most of the other Shopaholic books, but had apparently missed this one, the one that started it all! I found this one at a recent library sale, and picked it up for $1, so I went ahead and read it. I have loved most every Sophie Kinsella book I have read, although I do think I liked her stand-alone books (Undomestic Goddess and Can You Keep a Secret?) better than the Shopaholic ones. But they are all light and easy to read, which fits the bill for me a lot of the time.

For the record, my challenge is complete, and I’ve read 66 books so far this year, with a total of 23,144 pages read. Up next is a very short book I borrowed from my mother-in-law, called “Christmas Past”. After that, I will either head back to the library (haven’t been in a while, I’ve been reading books I own for a change!) or start on the Abram’s Daughters series by Beverly Lewis. Not sure, part of me wants to go back to the library and check out the rest of the Cedar Cove series of books by Debbie Macomber and finish those first!

P.S. Question of the Day: Are you reading a book right now? If so, which one and are you enjoying it? 😀

  1. Stacy Said,

Well, I’m about to start Wicked!

But, have you read the series by Mary Kay Andrews?? It’s about Georgia girls. Cute. Fluff. Fun.

  2. Susie Said,

I loved “Confessions of a Shopaholic” – I read it a couple of years ago and could truly (and kinda sadly) relate to her obsessions! 😉

I’m currently reading “Homecoming” by Belva Plain and it’s really good. I wrote two reviews of other books yesterday over at my blog, so when you get a chance, stop by!

  3. Debi Said,

Woo hoo! Congrats on finishing! I loved the Shopaholic books as well as her stand-alone ones. Kinsella is one of my favorite authors.
I’m currently reading “Tunnel Vision” by Sara Paretsky, part of a mystery series about a private female detective in Chicago. I’m almost done with it (should finish this week or weekend).

  4. Claire Said,

I’m reading Anne of the Island right now…it’s the 3rd book in Anne of Green Gables series. After taking 4 months to read the first, I read Anne of Avonlea in about a week b/c I read it while I worked out. I’ve stopped that b/c I don’t get as good of a workout but I try to read at least a chapter a night before I go to bed.

  5. Katrina Said,

Great job on reading all your books!! I’m very impressed! 🙂 I’ll put up a Mr. Linky on Callapidder Days on December 21st where everyone can link to a post they write about how they did on the challenge, so be sure to check back in then.

I just finished a book last night, so I get to start a new one tonight — it’ll either be The Living End (by Lisa Samson) or My Sister’s Keeper (by Jodi Picoult). I’m having a hard time deciding!

  6. Suzanne Said,

Reading Audacity of Hope by Barak Obama
Just read Grisham’s latest book, The Innocent Man.

  7. Dianne Said,

Good for you for finishing! I think I’m in the market for some new fiction. I just finished a few heavy non-fiction reads. I’m kind of in between books right now I guess. Unless cookbooks count. Oh & I just started reading a Christmas Carol (yes, the Dickens classic) this past weekend.

  8. Becca Said,

I am reading Lifeguard by James Patterson right now. I have a lot of books in my stack. I always have to have something to read, or I am easily bored. and when I am bored, I shop! 🙂

Congrats on finishing your list of books!

    Becca

  9. Sherry Said,

I just started “The Time Traveler’s Wife” yesterday and it is very good so far!

I asked my sister for the set of Beverly Lewis’s Abram’s Daughters books for Christmas. I’ve been wanting to read them for over a year now. She always gets me WONDERFUL books every Christmas! (Both of my sisters always buy me books for Christmas and I am always DELIGHTED!)

I am going to incorporate my own reading challenge for next year. One classic a month! I keep meaning to read more classics and just don’t get around to it because I get so excited about other books.

Is there going to be a Winter Reading challenge that you know of? Hopefully I won’t miss out this time!

    Sherry

  10. PixiePincessMom Said,

Gosh I’m sorry I haven’t visited in awhile. I’ve been in a hole I guess. Love the new holiday look! Let it snow! Oh wait, I’m in Texas……. we get ice. Which is suppose to hit on Thursday.

I wish I had more time to read. Seems like it takes me a year or more to read the church flyer. LOL! A friend gave me Boundaries by Dr Henry Cloud & Dr John Townsend so that’s what I’ve got my nose it.

  11. Gail Said,

I’m reading These High Green Hills, next in the series of Father Tim books by Jan Karon, but you know that because it’s your book!
Whew, I was sooooo glad when I finished that Hanna’s Daughters book that took me a long time to finish. Cannot get going on my Daniel stuff but other than that I’m almost through with my reading challenge books too.

  12. Gail Said,

I meant the Mitford Series, not Father Tim! Sorry I am too tired to think straight….

  13. Barb Said,

I’m always reading a book. Always. Right now I’m reading Inconceivable by Shannon Woodward. It’s her journey through the heartbreak of infertility. She was interviewed at 5 Minutes For Mom a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t wait to get the book. I also subscribe to her blog.

My daughter gave me Confessions of a Shopoholic. I loved it.

  14. proverbs31 Said,

Am I reading “A” book right now? I’m never reading just one! 😉 But I am trying to finish Dean Koontz’s By The Light Of The Moon. Pretty good so far.

  15. DawnK Said,

I just finished reading A Shop on Blossom Street, about a half-hour ago! I loved it and hated that it came to an end and I so wanted to visit the shop, on Friday afternoons. I felt like those women, were my friends, too!

I’ll have to get A Good Yarn, now!

This past year, I also read the other 2 Shopaholic books, too. I read Confessions of a Shopaholic, in 2005.

This next year, I think my daughter and I are going to keep track of what books we read, and the pages, like you do! I think it’s too late, for this year. I don’t remember all the books I read.

  16. Heidi Said,

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog to comment on the reading challenge. Looks like you had a lot of fun with it too. I really love those Mitford books. I would have read them all right away, but I had trouble finding the next ones in the series. I believe my mom has some I can borrow when I see her for Christmas though…That’s one of my major sources of books, my parents and my in-laws all have tons of books.
I’ve read some Beverly Lewis and I like her too.
    Merry Christmas!

  17. Deborah Said,

Thanks for stopping by on my blog! Yeah, 44 books is a lot, even for me. It comes from working in a library, every time something new comes in that looks interesting I have to get it. lol.
If you’re looking to read Francine Rivers, I’d recommend her Mark of the Lion trilogy. The y were the first books of hers that I read and they are some of my favorites. They’re historical fiction taking place during the Roman empire. If you want something modern I’d go with The Atonement Child or The Scarlet Thread.
As for Tracie Peterson, she’s written so many…any one of her series are good, my personal faves are her Westward Chronicles series, Ribbons of Steel series and Ribbons West series. I’ll be giving away one of her books in about two weeks so be sure to stop by again then to try to win!
