Brrrr!

Well, it finally feels like fall here! The temps have been getting lower at night, and I’ve finally turned our heat on. Tim lit a fire a couple of days ago (mostly to burn out the dust!), which is always more for atmosphere than actual heat.

We have been taking Beau for his long walks in the morning, and the temps have been in the 30’s (which is cold for us!) and this morning, the wind chill was below freezing. BRRR!!!

I think it’s time to take our “regular” sheets off the bed and put on my “winter” sheets. I would love to be able to put flannel sheets on there, but Tim despises them. He grudgingly agrees to have some jersey ones on our bed in the winter. I would prefer to have an electric blanket (since I’m so cold- natured), but Tim also does not like those. He likens it to sleeping with a microwave emitting stuff on you all night. Whatever 🙂 We keep our regular comforter on our bed, the one that stays on there year-round, and just add a quilt when it gets cold at night. I would like to have two sets of bedding, one for summer and one for winter, but I’ve not ever bought two sets. I do love adding the quilts though – we have two quilts we use on our bed in the winter. One is a handmade one that Tim’s grandmother made him when he was younger, and we both love that one. We have a really big, thick one that he got overseas when he was in the military that we use when it’s really really cold. I love nights like that, when we pile on the quilts and I get to snuggle up into a nice warm bed. 😀

So, that brings up today’s Question of the Day:

Do you change your bedding in the fall and winter? Do you go to flannel or other sheets? Do you change out your comforter or bedspread? Leave me a comment and let me know what you do at your house. 🙂

  1. Claire Said,

I don’t change any of that around here! I love the sheets I have. ONe time I had jersey and just don’t like the way they feel. I DO love putting quilts on top (I need to get one of those. Maybe Mama has an extra!). That extra weight is somehow comforting.

What is the deal with the Colts so far today…they just can’t seem to pull it together!

  2. Gail Said,

I don’t change any of that here either! I don’t feel like you can move/slide around on jersey or flannel like you can cotton…..I love high thread count cotton. I like an extra quilt if I need it, but you know me, I don’t usually need it! That honor belongs to Don.
Uh oh, are the Colts doing bad? If so, that probably means my fantasy team did bad too (:

  3. Suzanne Said,

Same sheets, high, high thread count, just more quilts, etc.

  4. presentstorm Said,

It is getting very chilly here tonight. Unfortunately it has to feel like a meat locker before Gup will turn on heat… He freezes me out..lol I have always wanted flannel sheets. Gup thinks they will make him to hot. I think I may almost have him convinced to let me try. Lil one has them and she loves them. She got them for Christmas last year from my mom and she will not let us take them off except to wash them and put them right back on…lol

as far as the bedspread… We have a microplush one now that is thin and super soft but actually keeps me warm so we keep in on all year long. Your new look is cute… I really love the Coca Cola font…

Oh yeah and thank you for the compliments on my scraplayouts 🙂 If you start scrappin again be sure to share.. I love seeing other layouts.

  5. Jim McKee Said,

I like the new template, but for some reason, my scroll-wheel does not work on it.

  6. Sherry Said,

I have two sets. I have already put on my “fall/winter” set which is jersey sheets with additional flannel pillowcases. (I get too hot w/ flannel sheets) The comforter is both warmer and a darker shade (burgandy and sage). In the spring/fall we use cotton sheets and have a spring green cotton comforter.

My Mom always changed her bedding with the warm/cold, and I do too! We are in Michigan so the warmer bedding is a must around here!

  7. Southern Girl Said,

I’m with Tim on flannel sheets! HATE THEM. *g* They grab onto whatever I’m wearing to sleep in and hang on, making it very difficult to turn over. I don’t really put anything different on my bed when it gets colder, just MORE. I pile the blankets and quilts up five or six thick, including this huge, very heavy mostly denim quilt my mom made me for Christmas one year about 12 years ago.

Love to snuggle down under all those covers with the room outside the covers being fairly cold. I sleep the best that way! 🙂

  8. Laura Said,

I LOVE flannel sheets. K doesn’t really care for them much, but he grudgingly allows them, and an electric blanket too. But I have to say that we never turn it on, because K is a human furnace. I am never, ever cold when I sleep anymore, and usually it is too hot. So it’s not quite as wonderfully chilly as it used to be when I slept by myself. 😉

Last night, I put on a set of light brown flannel. They are wonderful! I have 4-5 sets of “spring/summer” sheets and 4-5 of “fall/winter” sheets. That includes my spring/summer comforter and my fall/winter comforter. But we don’t sleep with those on the bed, and we really only make the bed with the comforter on the weekends.

One thing I really miss is down comforters. But those are just WAY too warm for a bed with my husband in it! Lol.

  9. Laura Said,

ps. I am jealous… it’s not cold enough here! Around 60 degrees for the daily high is tooooo warm. I want snow!

  10. Diana Herrera Said,

I change my sheets to a darker, less spring-like kind and we put our down comforter back on the bed. This year I changed the duvet cover to green. I have another one that’s chocolate but wanted a lighter cover this year. I live in Colorado so the comforter is on the bed from about October to April.

  11. southernfriedgirl Said,

I wish my hubs would allow me to do the flannel. However, he is a walking heating element and I am sure he would spontaneously combust with flannel. LOLOLOL. He literally warms the whole bed.

  12. Stacy Said,

Well, I don’t change a thing. At some point, Jeff will sneak the electric blanket on the bed because his feet are cold, but I hate that thing and have it pulled totally off my side. I sleep so hot that I can handle more than the sheet and comforter.

  13. Cam Said,

    Neat post!
I use the same sheets year-round. I’ve never really thought about it, but my sheets aren’t very wintery at all–the pattern is called “Summer Song”, in fact! I’m with Tim on the flannel sheets…I commented just a minute ago on how much I dislike things getting all twisty under the covers…flannel sheets drive me crazy for that reason!
In the summer I put our comforter up in the closet because we never need it, and in fact if it’s left on the bed, it just gets kicked off and onto the floor. So I started storing it away each summer. We just sleep with the sheet and a light blanket that is color-coordinated with the sheet set. Then, in the fall, I take the comforter down and put it on. I also love the coooold nights when I can actually pull up all those fluffy covers and snuggle down. Because of G, we can’t leave our thermostat as low as we used to leave it and as low as we really like it, because at his age he flails all over the place all night long and most of the time he spends completely out of the covers! I’ll go and fix him straight and re-cover him up, and 5 minutes later he’s out again and laying sideways or something crazy like that. So we have to bump up the temp in order to keep him from freezing…hopefully in coming years, he’ll learn to love that snuggle-down-in-the-covers feeling, too. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m sure you wanted to hear allllll this…LOL!
Take care and enjoy your cozy covers!
