Oops, Tagged!

5 Things to Eat Before You Die Oops, I stayed so busy over the long Labor Day holiday weekend, and didn’t get on the computer hardly at all. Come to find out, Claire over at Cooking is Medicine tagged me with a food meme. There is an ongoing “project” going on in the blogosphere called “5 Things to Eat Before You Die“, which you can read about here at the Traveler’s Lunchbox blogsite.

Hmmm, I’ve read skimmed through the posting info and I think I get the general gist of it. We’re to list “things you’ve eaten and think that everyone should eat at least once before they die“.

So, being decidedly Southern, mine will be along those lines! Here we go…

1. Good ole Southern sweet tea
2. Beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans
3. Homemade chicken n dumplings, like my mother-in-law’s
4. Fried catfish, french fries, and hush puppies
5. Homemade banana pudding with meringue

Honorable Mention: crawfish cooked at a “real” crawfish boil, complete with potatoes, corn and mushrooms, and some French bread on the side. Yummy!

That was fun, thanks Claire!! I won’t tag anyone specifically, but if you’d like to play along, go right ahead! 🙂

  1. Dianne Said,

What are beignets? I love catfish. And I don’t think I could do crawfish!

  2. BillH Said,

We always had cornbread with the crawfish boil.

  3. Gail Said,

Oooh, beignets! Good one, I should have thought of it….that’s a definite thing to eat before you die!

  4. Suzanne Said,

    Hey
I can cook all five of these, go figure !!

  5. Dawn P. Said,

There’s nothing like beignets! I remember the first time I had them – it was when our 7th grade teacher took us to Biloxi for a field trip and we went to Mary Mahoney’s. Hope that’s spelled right… Addicted ever since.

  6. Bev Said,

I have never had crawfish although I’ve been tempted. My son and his friend will sometimes catch them and bring them to his friend’s house. The main reason they don’t bring any here is because I don’t know how to fix them.

Everything else I’ve had if you count my chicken and noodles (which I’ve been told are chicken and dumplings and if you count my mother’s fried bread I’ve had the beignets. 😉

  7. Cam Said,

Wow, your 1-4 would probably make my list, too! Apparently great taste buds think alike, too! 😉

  8. Southern Girl Said,

Oh gosh, can I come eat with you when you eat all of that? *g* Seriously, I’m nearly drooling at the thought. It’s all good!
