Well, I blogged a bit more this weekend than I normally do, but there was a lot on my mind, and we were fairly busy 🙂 Thought I would jot the rest of it down… Saturday, I already blogged about (twice), and then Sunday afternoon, Tim went to play golf. He had gone to the driving range late Friday, but he just couldn’t stand not playing on the weekend. He wanted me to go with him, but it was just too hot for me in the middle of the day. So, he had to go by himself, poor thing. After he got home, we decided to go see “The Devil Wears Prada” at the theater. It was good, not excellent, but good. I probably could have waited and rented it, but it was nice that Tim offered to go see a girl movie with me. I have not read the book yet, so I didn’t know the whole plot and I must admit it was more drama than comedy, which surprised me a little. I enjoyed it though, and was glad that Tim agreed to go.
For a splurge, I made us some homemade ice cream Sunday night in my little Cuisinart ice cream maker that I got two summers ago and just love. It makes just the right amount for the two of us. We still have a big one that is up in the attic somewhere, for when we have a big group over. You know, the old kind where you have to add ice and rock salt. I love this one because I can just freeze the container, pop it out and have ice cream in under 30 minutes. Believe it or not, I’ve only ever made one kind of ice cream – plain jane vanilla. That would be because of Tim, when it comes to homemade ice cream, he’s a total purist and only EVER wants vanilla. I added crushed Butterfingers and chocolate coating to mine, so it was much better. Click on the extended page for a couple of ice cream pictures, if you want 🙂
Here’s the before:
And the after!!
And Miss Piggy licking the beater – that is the perk of making it and cleaning up after it, you get to lick the beaters! Right?! 🙂
I’ve been craving homemaade ice cream although my husband would insist on vanilla also. My gram used to have the old-fashioned bucket kind but this would suit me just fine! Yum.
You make bread…you make ice cream….you are my culinary hero!! (I sitll haven’t gotten courageous and tried out that bread maker)
Now I am hungry 🙂
The only way we could have ice cream when I was a kid in Bangladesh is if we made it ourselves. We could make vanilla or chocolate. It was a nice treat.
I have one of those freezer-canister type of ice-cream makers. I haven’t used it in a LONG time! I should find it and stick the canister in the freezer, so Emily and I can make ice cream tomorrow.
You have to read the Devil Wears Prada book. The book goes into a lot more detail! The ending is a little different, too. I loved the book and thought the movie was pretty good, but they end up having to leave out stuff. She was so evil!
Yum!!!! The Icecream looks absolutely delicious… In our house too, Vanilla Icecream is the standard, becoz both my daughters like Vanilla or strawberry only. They do not tolerate nuts or fruits in Ice cream at all, though they love them seperately. I fulfill my chocolate craze by pouring chocolate sauce or the like on mine… A favourite of mine is Vanilla Icecream with hot chocolate sauce…
That looks delicious. I am hungry for a sweet treat now, so after I leave this comment I will be eating one of Cory’s leftover bday cupcakes. Thank you very much!
I remember getting to sit on the bucket (to keep it in place). I also remember adding rock salt as my dad churned the ice cream. It was a treat to get to sit on the bucket, b/c if you sat on the bucket you got to lick the beaters. Mmmm, there is nothing better than homemade vanilla ice cream.
