Back from the library…

I just spent a happy hour or so browsing my local library, and checking on some books I wanted to check out. I have started reading the same series that Gail just finished, the “Redemption” series by Karen Kingsbury. I got the first two books with no problem, but have had trouble getting the third. First off, they seem to be very popular books and have trouble keeping the copy/copies they have on the shelf. Mostly, for this third book, there is only one copy left for all branches, so it stays checked out. I got on the waiting list though (there’s one or two people ahead of me), so hopefully I will get it in a month or so.

In the mean time, I had no problem finding other books to check out! On the contrary – I spend time finding tons of books, then have to sit down and narrow down which ones I want to get today. I try to limit myself to 3, and that is usually plenty for me. We can check them out for three weeks, so that’s an average of one per week. Sometimes do-able, and sometimes that is pushing it. 🙂

OK, I’ve updated my sidebar, but in case you’re interested in the books I got, click on the extended entry to read more about them.

First up, the last in a series of books called “The Zion Covenant” by Bodie Theone. I’ve read the first 5 books in this series, and have finally checked out the last. It’s entitled “Warsaw Requiem” and I’ll be reading this one first. I’m anxious to see how these books end and how it wraps all of the plotlines up. I’ve really enjoyed these books, and have more by the husband/wife writing team of Brock and Bodie Theone on my list to check out in the future.

Next up will be a very light book by Ann B. Ross, one of the “Miss Julia” books. I stumbled upon these books totally by accident one day last year, while just browsing the shelves. I had never heard of the author or any of the books, and took a chance by checking one out, and I instantly fell in love with them. They’re very light and entertaining, very Southern, and quite eccentric and charming in a gotta-live-in-the-South to understand why, sort of way. I’ve read two of these before, and enjoyed both immensely. They’re usually very quick reads. This one is called “Miss Julia Throws a Wedding”.

Last up is a book I have seen mentioned on a message board I frequent. I believe several of the ladies have either read this book independently, or as part of a book club they belong to. I adore the title, and hope the book is equally as good. It’s “Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons” by Lorna Landvik. I read the jacket cover and it seems to span 4 decades of a group of 5 friends in small-town Minnesota, through all their ups and downs and passages of time (as the jacket says, through the swinging sixties, the turbulent seventies, the anything-goes-eighties, and the nothing’s-impossible nineties). I hope it’s as good as I’ve heard.

Check back in the next 3 weeks to get reviews of each as I read them.
