2 cups sugar
4 Tbsp (heaping) cornstarch
1 gal 2% milk
1 can sweetened (non-fat) condensed milk
5 large eggs
3 tsp vanilla extract
1 box ice cream salt
fruit options: 7 bananas / 2 large cans of crushed pineapple
/ 6 peaches
Directions:
Getting ready:
Combine the 2 cups sugar and 4 Tbsp cornstarch in large pot. Mix thoroughly. Add 2 quarts milk. Stir.
Cooking the custard:
Heat on HIGH till hot. Cook for 15 minutes (after hot). Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Add one can sweetened condensed milk. Cook for 5-10 minutes. Turn heat to LO or OFF. Beat (very well!) 5 large eggs. Add 3 tsp vanilla extract. Add the eggs-extract to the custard slowly and stir constantly! Increase heat to MEDIUM. Cook & stir until thick.
Let the custard cool, then store in fridge overnight.
The Big Day:
Layer milk, custard, and fruit (optional) in the ice cream container. Place in tub, and hookup the motor. Start motor, layer ice & salt up to the top of container. Add 2 cups of tap water. Run motor until ice cream has thickened (28-40 minutes). Remove the paddle quickly before it freezes in place.
Eat ice cream on paddle to replace calories burned while removing it.
Scrape hardened ice cream from sides of container.
