Instructions
- I never measure, just start with a couple of heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise. If I'm wanting to be healthier and I have some plain greek yogurt on hand, I will substitute some of that for the mayo.
- Add a dash of lemon juice (fresh or bottled) and a dash of pickle juice (optional, I like the flavor of dill pickles). Finely dice some dill pickles (or whatever you like) and add. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper and a fair amount of dried dill (more than you think you'll need). Mix and taste and adjust as you go.
- Refrigerate before serving.
Recipe Notes
Stacy's Notes: I'm sure there are lots of fancy ways to make homemade tartar sauce. One day, I will experiment and add diced shallots or red onion. Another time, I want to try it with salty capers.
But this is my basic everyday tartar sauce that my mom taught me to make. I no longer buy bottled tartar sauce, I just mix some of this up quickly before a meal of seafood or fish, or salmon patties, or tuna cakes or crab cakes. Refrigerate before you serve, it gives the flavors time to "meld". Enjoy!
