Instructions
- Layer the ingredients in a pint mason jar, starting with seasonings on the bottom, then fill to nearly the top with egg noodles, then place wrapped chicken bouillon cube on top. Attach gift tag or instructions as follows:
- Original poster gift tag instructions (see notes for changes I made): Unwrap the bouillon cube. Add the bouillon cube, remaining content of the jar, 2 diced carrots, 2 diced celery stalk and 5 cups of water into a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat. Cover and simmer, until the noodles are cooked through, about 10 minutes. Stir in 2 cups chopped cooked chicken and add more water if necessary. Discard the bay leaf. Season to taste with salt and black pepper and serve.
Recipe Notes
I took two recipes online and combined them (from the websites misswish.com and wholefully.com). I made these and gifted at Christmas, and taste tested it first. I added the following personalized notes on my gift tag:
I ended up using 4 cups of water total with this soup. I added diced carrots and you can also add celery (which I omitted). I tried this with canned chicken and it was good, but I think the soup would be better with freshly cooked or grilled chicken or probably easiest to just use rotisserie chicken (about 2 cups). Season to taste at the end with salt and pepper. Enjoy!
