Here are the books I read in April! You would think with shelter at home and social distancing, I would have gotten a lot more books read, but alas, I was busy doing other things! I hope to get more read in May and June, as this appears to be dragging on into the summer. I am staying busy with digital loans from my library, thankfully!
I read 7 books in April, and also finished my spring ladies Bible study through my church (so 8 in total). All but one of these books are Christian fiction (the lone secular choice was The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, but it was very clean). With everything going on, I’m looking for easy reads, and many were continuations of series I am already reading (and hence are comforting to me!).
However, I am still trying to branch out, and read a new author here and there! My new authors for this month were Melanie Dobson (more on that in a second), Heather Morris and Kim Michele Richardson. Melanie Dobson is a Christian author and although I’ve read one book by her, I’m still counting her as new, LOL! The book I read many years ago by Dobson was one of the “Love Inspired” series, which is a sweet clean read, like a Christian version of a Harlequin book. Lots of authors get their start with these, and I don’t feel like that book was a true representation of Melanie Dobson’s writing, hence I’m counting the wonderful book of “Memories of Glass” as new for me. Heather Morris wrote the very difficult but very engrossing read “The Tattooist of Auschwitz”, and I am on the wait list at my library’s digital site for the follow-up to this one, called “Cilka’s Journey”. The Kim Michele Richardson book, “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” was recommended to me, and though I had a wee bit of trouble “getting into it”, I did end up really enjoying it. I love learning new things, and this book had two minor historical footnotes that I was totally unfamiliar with (the Blue people of Kentucky and the WPA’s Pack Mule library program).
I really enjoyed everything I read in April, and have high hopes for a better reading month (famous last words!) in May! Happy Reading!
