I have made this several times and it always gets good compliments. It makes alot so I usually make it for large gatherings.

1 Duncan Hines Butter Cake Mix
1 large and 1 small crushed pineapple -drained
2 large pkgs vanilla instant pudding
3 pts strawberries or 2 bags frozen (do not drain)
1 cup chopped pecans
2 large containers cool whip
1 cup sugar (not that much if strawberries are already sugared)
Bake cake according to directions in a sheet cake pan. Make instant pudding , keep in fridge until ready. Drain pineapple. Slice strawberries, leave 12 to garnish top if they are fresh. Add sugar to berries and mix.

Alternate layers:
1st layer- cake cubes, pudding, strawberries, cool whip and pecans
2nd layer- cake cubes, pudding, pineapple, cool whip and pecans.

Top last layer with cool whip and garnish with strawberries or nuts.
Best if made a day ahead for juices to set up. Refrigerate.

I don't think I've ever made it a day ahead, it is always last minute, and its still very good.
