 Bake cake according to directions in a sheet cake pan. Make instant pudding , keep in fridge until ready.  Drain pineapple. Slice strawberries, leave 12   to garnish top if they are fresh. Add sugar to berries and mix. 
 
Alternate layers: 
 1st layer- cake cubes, pudding, strawberries, cool whip and pecans 
 2nd layer- cake cubes, pudding, pineapple, cool whip and pecans. 
 
Top last layer with cool whip and garnish with strawberries or nuts. 
Best if made a day ahead for juices to set up. Refrigerate. 
 
I don't think I've ever made it a day ahead, it is always last minute, and its still very good.
