Sloppy Joe's
Description:
I detest Manwich, and I don't particularly like Sloppy Joe's, but Tim loves them, so I make this one for him. We both like it! :)

Ingredients:

8 ounces tomato sauce
2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion -- chopped
1 small green pepper -- chopped
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/4 cup light brown sugar -- packed
1/4 cup vinegar
1 1/3 tablespoons mustard
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Hamburger buns -- toasted
Directions:
  1. Brown beef, onion and green pepper in butter in pan; drain off excess grease. Stir in tomato sauce and remaining ingredients, except buns. Simmer 20 minutes and serve on hot toasted buns or bun halves.

  2. Stacy's Notes - I use 1 lb of ground beef and halve everything else for us, except the bell pepper, which I leave out. I usually just eyeball some of the ingredients and go by taste!

  3. More Stacy's Notes - These days, I am more likely to use ground turkey than ground beef. I use one pound and use the full amount of the tomato sauce and sort of eyeball the rest of the ingredients. We like these with more sauce, so I would double the other ingredients if I were making with two pounds of meat. Also, I don't brown my meat in butter, just a dab of olive or canola oil if anything. I add minced onion but no green pepper and use everything else the same. We have these often on whole wheat buns with oven fries or sweet potato fries.
