Book - A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle

This is an older book that has been on my "to-read" list for years and years. It was probably published 10-15 years ago. I'm so happy that I finally got around to reading it. :)

It's a non-fictional account of Mayle's first year of living in a 200 year old farmhouse in Provence that he and his wife bought "on a whim". What appealed to me about the book is the detailed accounts of the area, the renovation work they have done on their house, the locals they interact with, and mostly, the food. Food and wine, glorious detailed accounts of both. The book is setup by months, each month is a separate chapter. It rambles a bit at times, with Mayle suddenly bringing up something he had never mentioned before (and suddenly, it is the most important thing in the world, that kind of thing.) But, it's still charming and entertaining and engaging, to find out what is coming next.

In summary: I really enjoyed it! A different style of writing, but a very enjoyable read. (Final Note: I took 2 years of French in school and I still had trouble with some of the words and phrases that he quoted in French and never offered a translation for, but those were few and far between. Rather added to the character of the book, like a travelogue.) :)
