Book - Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

I bought this book with a gift card and had hoped to read it before the movie came out on DVD. I purposefully skipped it at the theater (not that I would have been able to drag Tim to it, I was being realistic), and planned to rent it. I delayed renting the movie until I had read the book.

The book was very well written and the author obviously spent an enourmous time researching the way of the geisha in this period of history. It was evident in the richness of detail in this book. At times though, maybe because of the references to the Japanese words, it read a bit slow and I had trouble plodding through it. I think this is because I "read out loud" inside my head and the Japanese words and references slowed me down.

Having said that, I did enjoy the book and am glad I read it. Books always give more detail than the movie, and in this case, reading the book first helped me to understand the movie more and it be more clear.

I rate this book a 7 out of 10 stars. I own this in paperback, if anyone would ever like to borrow it. Just drop me a line and let me know! :)
