Stacy’s Sloppy Joes
Adapted from an old recipe from a friend! I do the regular version, but occasionally alter it to make the cheesy sloppy joes (see notes)

Ingredients
Cheesy Sloppy Joes
Instructions
  1. Brown the beef or turkey, chopped onion and pepper in a skillet (add olive oil or butter if needed to brown your meat). Drain off any excess fat and grease.
  2. Stir in the can of tomato sauce, and all remaining ingredients. Stir well to combine. (I taste here to see if I need more bbq, more mustard, etc).
  3. Simmer meat mixture 20-30 minutes then serve over hamburger buns. We like ours with pickles 🙂
Cheesy Sloppy Joes
  1. For the cheesy joes, I usually use turkey, although beef works great. I leave out the white vinegar and barbecue sauce from the original list of ingredients. I add a bit more mustard, worcestershire and then some ketchup in addition to the tomato sauce. Once the mixture has simmered 20 minutes, before serving, toss in as much shredded cheese as you like (I usually use colby jack or a fiesta shredded cheese, or whatever I have on hand). Serve as you would the regular sloppy joes, on buns with your choice of toppings. Note: the cheesey turkey joes are particular good on Hawaiian slider rolls or buns!
Recipe Notes

Stacy’s Notes: This recipe is probably a bit on the sweet side for some, but this is the way we like it! If you don’t like moderately sweet sloppy joes, then use less bbq sauce or less brown sugar, or else use more worcestershire and vinegar to make it tangier rather than sweet. Or make the cheesy variety, it is not sweet at all! Serve on buns with your favorite sides and have a delicious meal tonight! Enjoy 🙂
