Sausage Loaf
Sausage Loaf, or Stuffed French Bread, is a decadent food to have for a party, get-together, football game, the Super Bowl, or whenever you feel like something delicious and fattening!
Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Cook sausage in heavy skillet until done; drain the fat.
  2. Slice top off French bread lengthwise. Hollow out bottom of loaf; break into small pieces and toast to make about 3 cups crumbs
  3. Beat eggs until foamy; add milk, a third of the Cheddar cheese, a third of the Monterey Jack cheese, drained sausage and bread crumbs. Mix well.
  4. Fill bottom of bread loaf with mixture. Sprinkle remaining cheeses over mixture. Pack well.
  5. Cover with bread top. Wrap loaf in foil.
  6. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or until cheese melts and seals loaf together. To serve, cut in 2 inch slices.
Recipe Notes

Stacy’s Notes:  I’ve been making this for the two of us for football games for a very long time.  I think the loaves of French bread are smaller than they used to be, LOL!  We like to use a Jimmy Dean or flavorful sausage, if you have plain sausage or ground pork, be sure to season it up (with so few ingredients, the sausage needs to pack a lot of flavor punch). I much prefer to grate my own cheese, I’ve made it with bagged, pre shredded cheese and it’s not as good.  Be sure to wrap it up in foil for easy cleanup 🙂

Enjoy!
