Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. See notes, in my old oven, I baked at 350, and in my new oven, I bake at 325 degrees!
  2. Melt the butter in a 2 qt. saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat, add the cocoa and stir until well-blended. Add the sugar and mix well. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the flour, vanilla and salt; stir just until combined. Stir in chips and nuts (optional).
  3. Spread the batter in a greased 9×13″ pan; bake for 30 minutes or until done.
Recipe Notes

Stacy’s Notes:  I’ve been making these for over 20 years.  In our old house, and in our old oven, I baked these at 350 degrees. When we moved and I got a newer oven, the first time I baked these at 350, they were overbaked and dry, so in my new oven, I now bake these at 325 degrees.

I mix the whole thing with a wooden spoon. I use a big enough saucepan to melt the butter, and that way, I just add all the ingredients and mess up one bowl.  Pour into the sprayed or greased 9×13 pan (I use a dark metal pan, and have never tried in a glass or other pan). The original recipe has a bake time of 30-40 minutes but mine are always perfect at 30 minutes.

Enjoy!
