This week’s topic: After the Honeymoon

Have you ever fallen out of love with a favorite author? Was the last book you read by the author so bad, you broke up with them and haven’t read their work since? Could they ever lure you back?

Good question! I don’t think I have ever fallen “out of love” with an author. I do have a couple of authors that I used to read years ago that I just do not read any more. It’s not so much that I read a book that I didn’t enjoy, but more that my tastes have changed, and my reading has “evolved” a bit. I used to read a lot of Danielle Steele years ago, and my mom read her also. I loved buying a paperback of hers, so I could read it and then share it with my mom. I also used to really love Barbara Delinsky, and while I would still read her now, I just don’t ever think to check for her books at the library. I have so many other authors that I’ve discovered now to read, and many more I want to try, as well as new genres that I’ve found that I enjoy. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by an author I liked, and the book was so bad that I swore off them. I have done that with a new author, though. I read one Joyce Carol Oates book a year or so ago and hated it. I won’t read her ever again.

Happy Reading!

  1. Karen Said,

I don’t think I’ve ever given up on a favorite author, but I have given up on Oprah’s book selections. I find most of them depressing and very much the same theme. Occasionally she’ll come up with something different — I think she was doing the classics a while back, and that was okay. I loved East of Eden.

  2. Gail Said,

I don’t know if I’ve ever given up on anyone either…although there are probably a few that I read that were so bad and I said I’d never read anything by them again that I’ve pushed them out of my mind! I’ve read a few things like the ones you mentioned years ago and don’t read those kind now either, sort of a change in taste like you said. 🙂

  3. Shawna Said,

I used to read VC Andrews and Stephen King as a teenager. I don’t really care for those type books much anymore. Like you I’ve found some new, better authors.

  4. Stephanie Said,

You know…..my Grandma loved Danielle Steele. She wanted me to read them too, so we could talk about them. But after about 4, I just couldn’t go on!! All four books were the same!! Yikes. Grandma still lends them to me…..I just give them back without reading them though!!

    Happy Thursday!!
