This week’s topic: Oh, Horror!

What with yesterday being Halloween, and all . . . do you read horror? Stories of things that go bump in the night and keep you from sleeping?

I thought about asking you about whether you were participating in NaNoWriMo, but I asked that last year. Although . . . if you want to answer that one, too, please feel free to go ahead and do both, or either, your choice!

Well, another really easy one for me this week. No on both counts!

As for horror, I don’t want anything to do with books or TV shows or movies that are even remotely scary or suspenseful. I don’t like things that go bump in the night. I don’t like things popping up on movies where I gasp and my heart beats. I don’t like to be scared. And believe me, I’m easily scared. I can be in our bathroom, brushing my teeth and Tim can walk around the corner and say something to me. I yell, scream and spew out toothpaste because he frightened me – in the middle of the day, when I knew he was in the house. So, no – horror is not a good genre for me 😀

As for NaNoWriMo, I don’t participate. I’m not much of a writer, although I have visions of grandeur and imagine I could write a best selling book one day. Of course, I have very little interest in actually sitting down to write a paragraph, much less a chapter or book. 🙂

  1. Bev Said,

I love being spooked. I read horror novels and I watch horror movies. I remember reading something by Stephen King about why. He said it was something about cheating death. It’s the way we raise the sheet on the dead body … rubber neck at accidents. We survived.

I don’t participate in NaNoWriMo, but I am going to try my darndest to blog daily for NoBloPoMo.

  2. Daphne Said,

I’m with you – I hate being scared!

  3. Mei Said,

I don’t read horror for EXACTLY the same reason. I’m the same girl who will stay awake agonizing over the normal squeaks and shudders in my house; why add to that?

  4. Gail Said,

Well no surprise to you but NO I don’t like horror or scary books, movies or anything like that! I do the same thing in the house….I can be in the kitchen running water, cleaning up and probably daydreaming, will turn around and Don will be standing there and I start screaming and then he starts screaming saying, “don’t scare me like that” And then I get really frustrated trying to tell him HE scared me! Isn’t it lovely being so skittish and all.

  5. stephanie Said,

Oh…I love scary books and movies!! It’s one of my favorite genres.

I would love to be involved with NaNoWriMo, but I know I just don’t have the time. I think it would be fun. Maybe next year, if my world slows down a bit!

  6. Heidi Said,

I don’t like scary anymore either.

  7. Dianne Said,

Stacy, I think there just may be a book hiding in you somewhere! Like you though, I don’t do horror! yuck!

  8. theresa Said,

I do not like horror books or movies. I hate seeing gore in movies and tv.

I think there is a story in all of us to tell, the hard part is writing it down.

  9. Melody Said,

I love horror books…and sometimes movies too, but as long as it’s PG rated, LOL!

  10. Literary Feline Said,

I love that story about your husband scaring you while you were brushing your teeth. 🙂 I am like that too with my husband. I’ll be busy doing something and he’ll casually walk into a room and I’ll scream because he’s startled me. Now if one of the animals were to wander in, it wouldn’t bother me at all.

  11. Shawna Said,

I used to read horror but have laid off on it. I hate horror movies. But, I picked up a book called “The Hidden” by Kathryn Mackel because it sounded suspenseful. Turns out it is a thriller, but I am enjoying it. I tend to get scared, too, and don’t plan on reading very many of those types. And I wouldn’t allow myself to read it on Halloween.
