We started bible school on Monday….the decorating went better than we first thought. Now I’m just trying to study some each day and get materials and activities together!
Found lots of bamboo looking mats and some grass skirt type things in boxes at the church so those got hung in lots of places. Someone made a couple of foamboard surf boards for us, we added a few random things and decided it was all enough!

(I think the younger mamas are better suited for this stuff but they keep asking all of us with no kids at home to keep teaching and it makes me really tired. :))

I’m WORN OUT and gonna turn in!

I can’t seem to find the time to post or blog visit. So a quick list it is for today!

* We went to see the new Indiana Jones movie over the weekend…..enjoyed it pretty much and thought it was a typical Indy movie and kinda fun. A few things toward the end were a little weird though!
* The sewing is coming along, but not as fast as I need it to be. One set of burp cloths went in the mail yesterday but 2 more need to be done, plus a baby blanket.
* I’m starting to get panicky about bible school! Outrigger island is the theme this year and our room is supposed to be like the inside of a hut. Decorating is not my thing and I have no ideas! I need help.
* We have had more than our share of rain, thank you very much! Enough already and please quit. Terrible thunder and lightening shook the house and woke me up about 4:30 this morning.

When we came out of the movie the other night, this was in the sky just down the road………..

They give us the greens of summers

I can think of nothing to post about, so pictures seem to be what I fall back on…but that works most days doesn’t it? I believe I’m avoiding the sewing I so desperately need to finish. Now maybe I can get back to it.

“….I’ll show you everything

It’s been a while! I didn’t mean to be gone that long but sometimes there’s just too many other things going on. Two of my four kids came home last weekend for a visit and it happened to be both girls. There’s always lots to do if other people are around here, plus one of them has 2 of the wee ones so that makes it quite lively at my house! And all 4 of my kids blessed me last week for Mother’s day, they’re so sweet.
The oldest one and his crew sent me these….

The girls sent me some new pictures this week of the little ones. I should be sewing and cleaning house but instead I’m on the computer! Maybe after I share a few of these I can get on to my work. A few nights ago I got to talk to Grayson and Ava Clair on the phone; they were supposed to be getting in the bed but called me first to talk, very sweet! Sometimes I have to get some interpreting done because they get very excited, start talking fast and it all runs together.
I’ll put them on the extended page…..

It was a beautiful weekend here, perfect weather so hubby and his friend chased that elusive golf ball both days! I sewed on Saturday while they played in a tournament all day, a benefit with the money going to the cancer society. Sunday after church the girls rode with them so our friends could take their little 4 year old grandson. I took my book and camera so I could amuse myself!
Just for fun, some pictures I took while out enjoying the day….

A few weeks back when E was home one weekend we went to a chinese place for lunch. They always bring fortune cookies when we’re done, which Don and I hardly ever look at…..he doesn’t like them much and I think the fortunes are never really fortunes. E opened hers and read it and told me to see what mine said. Imagine my surprise when I got one that I thought was a “real” one for once and a good one to boot! I couldn’t wait to show it to hubby but he’s sorta been less than enthusiastic about it. I took it home, posted it on the fridge and I might blow it up and put it on his mirror!

Now that’s what I’m talking about! I could go for that…..although I’ve apparently talked about it just a wee bit too much. Hubby has sort of not been listening to me, then making some vague remark about it being in some other state until finally one day this–he told me that piece of paper might be talking about my eternal home! Ok, thanks honey! Guess I’ll quit now (although I might still post it on his mirror)
Yesterday we ate chinese again; we seem to be creatures of habit. And I got another good one:

Why oh why couldn’t this fortune be what one of my kids had gotten! They might need the reminder. 😉

But to know that you love me
Brings fame and fortune my way

they’re goin’ North, the rush is on

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind around here the past few days. We spent the weekend in Jackson celebrating my dad’s birthday, then helping son pack some of his stuff to bring home and store for a while. He came in Sunday evening with another truck load of furniture and belongings for us to unload yesterday. He’s just about completely moved out and is probably sleeping on the floor or couch; going to take two exams this week and then he’s off! David is going to Alaska for the summer! I think it’s going to be a big adventure for him, he should get to see some cool places but it feels really far away. He lives about 80-90 miles from us now though and we don’t see him that often so maybe it won’t be much different. There are 8 of them from around here, all friends, that will work there together. They’ll be tour directors for a travel company doing land tours on a bus or maybe trains too. His birthday will happen while he’s gone so we got him a camera this weekend as his gift, because I figured if you’re going someplace fun you should have a camera to document it! I’ve also told him to send us pictures regularly but I’m not so sure he’ll follow up on that part!
This was probably my last time to see him for a while so we took a few pictures……

(with a giant snickerdoodle in his mouth!)

We’ve never been to Alaska but I’ve always thought it would be a fun place to see…..don’t know whether we could work it out for this summer or not but I hope to live vicariously through his pictures!

I’ve found another reading challenge I’m going to do, Lynne is hosting and calling it I Heard it Through the Grapevine. This one will be easy enough to handle I think, 3 books between May and the end of November that have been recommended in some way.

Where do you find new books to read? Do you get recommendations from friends? From the library? From the person next to you on the plane or train or bus? From other book blogs?
The goal of this challenge is to read 3 new-to-you books between June 1 and November 30 that have been recommended to you. Feel free to read more if you want! Any type of book is OK. It can even be a book by an author you’ve read before. Cross-overs with other challenges are fine, and you can change books at any time. And there will be a prize at the end of the challenge. You will need to sign up before June 1.

It’s a good thing she says the books can change at any time because I’m prone to change my mind at times! And if I can’t find one of these or find something else I’d rather include, I’m likely to do that. Here’s what I’m doing or think I’m doing right now:
1. A Bride Most Begrudging by Deanne Gist….I’m picking this one based on the author, several blogs I read had enjoyed some of her books so I’m going with this one.
2. Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult….sister Stacy has told me on several occasions to try this one by Picoult; I’ve read one other book by this author. If I can’t get the library to get this one for me I’ll probably borrow another one of hers that Stacy has finished reading.
3. Uncharted by Angela Hunt….I’ve read on other blogs that this was a good one and if I can find it I’ll read it. After reading a review of it it doesn’t sound like the normal books I read, so maybe it might change!

If you have any other books that you really liked or like to recommend to people I’d love to hear about them! I’m always looking for other ideas of stuff to read. Be sure to visit Lynne if you’d like to join in, it’s open to everyone!

tuppence a bag

I love to have bird feeders out and watch the birds come by to eat……I don’t like the squirrels so one of my feeders is a squirrel proof one! Recently I bought a thistle feeder for finches and it happens to be sort of a sock looking tube thing which I’d not seen before. It was only up in the tree a few days before I left for TX. I thought it would be fun for Grayson and Ava Clair to have one so they could watch birds too; got it and put it up in their tree out front and Trent promptly informed me when he got home that they don’t have those kinds of birds! Just doves and mockingbirds were all he’d seen! I think I should have gotten a different kind of feeder for them. I was quite surprised when I got home the other day to see that the thistle seed in my new feeder was almost gone! And I’ve seen lots of little birds come by to eat this week……tried to get pictures but I have to do it through the door so as not to scare them off.

Two cute little birdies hanging on! I had bird seed on my shopping list yesterday but alas, there was NO thistle seed in walmart! What is up with that? I do believe I’ve seen it before but I was pretty bummed that I couldn’t buy it then. There’s only one other store I can try to check here and maybe I’ll do that today. I would have done so yesterday but the skies opened up and dumped vast amounts of rain with hail when I was trying to get a buggy load of groceries across a parking lot and into my car. I didn’t venture out again after that!
How about you, do you feed the birds?

Saturday morning before we left Houston we went to Grayson’s t-ball game. I’d forgotten how much fun a t-ball game can be! Everyone gets to bat, everyone gets to play in the field and sometimes 6 of them all go after a ball that’s been hit! It’s a great time for learning all about the game. I thought they all looked pretty organized and the coaches had done a good job with the kids. They all lined up afterwards to congratulate each other. Grayson had practice one day while I was there and they learn verses each week for practice so I helped him with that. They each got stars after the game too, for learning verses and for other things related to the game….good sportsmanship, good offense, etc. They’ll have a good supply of stars ironed onto their little shirts when the season is over! I couldn’t get by without sharing pictures you know! Click below to see those. 😆

are you ready for a brand new beat

I’ve been gone and not keeping up with blog reading like I should. I just noticed that Susanne is giving away a copy of the Steven Curtis Chapman cd! It’s been done as a give away several times now and you might like another chance to snag one so hurry on over and leave her a comment. I think you can still sign up today and she’s drawing a random number Tuesday morning. Run right now and get yourself entered!
My cd came while I was gone so I’m looking forward to hearing it…….the other one came also, Matt Maher. If you missed that free one, it’s being offered here for $8.97, a really good deal!
Check it out….

I’ve been having fun this past week being in Houston seeing new baby Henry and helping out just a bit. I’m not sure I was very much help but I’ve sure enjoyed being here. We did just a bit of cooking, I finished up sewing some burp cloths and mostly played with the kids. I took Grayson and Ava Clair to the park every day so maybe that was a good diversion for them. Oh and you thought that other part was all you’d have to read didn’t you! That was only half of it! I took a relatively easy, simple, shortish meme and made it difficult and way too long but now that I did part of it, I just don’t think I can leave it half done….so here’s the rest for you to groan read over. Just in case you haven’t seen the other half, check it out here. It also has some links to blogs that have done this meme in probably the more correct way.

Have you ever:
15. Sang Karaoke …. like out in public for anyone else to hear! I.Don’t.Think.So.Tim! (pretend points for that) Now I sing in the car, around the house and in my mind all the time and I do in my mind dream of singing for other people but then reality and being a scaredy cat sets in. I would so love to be one of those backup singers on AI! Or a backup singer or dancer for you know who! Well maybe only Stacy knows who!
16. Paid for a meal with coins only? I think I’ve been with hubby when he’s done this for some small meal at a fast food place before, and been just a little bit embarrassed. At times he collects massive amounts of change in his truck and likes to use it up but I can’t recall that I’ve done it myself. I will pay cash at stores sometimes for stuff, and count out exact bills and change much to my kids and Stacy’s chagrin at having to hold up people in line while doing it.
17. Done something you told yourself you wouldn’t? I’ve said things to my kids that were told to me when growing up that I thought I’d never say to them but did! Like when they asked why, I’d say because I said so! And other assorted genius parenting statements on my part.
When it comes to something like sky diving and bungee jumping, no I’ve still not done them and still never plan to. Wait, I think I said I wouldn’t go white water rafting but sorta got rooked into that on one of our vacations….I’m semi glad I did but even more glad that I’ve done it and don’t really feel the need to do it again.
18. Made prank phone calls As a kid I did those standard ones, call someone and ask them if their refrigerator was running…who came up with that anyway!
19. Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose – or other places! Nose, probably yes….other places, gross no!
20. Caught a snowflake on your tongue Well for the one time in 5-10 years that it snows here in the south, I probably have done this!
21. Danced in the rain I SO don’t like to be wet! So I’m guessing that it’s not something I’ve ever done and why would you want to? I’ve not learned to embrace rain or water to any great extent.
22. Written a letter to Santa Claus Yes….and I was absolutely devastated when I found it one year under the telephone nook out in our hall in the house I lived in as a little girl. And let me tell you, I was a bit older and maybe way too naive but for someone who actually really truly without a doubt to this day saw Santa Claus fly by her window on Christmas Eve, finding my letter at the house was just way too much. (there’s a song that could have been written for me about it too!)
23. Been kissed under the mistletoe I have no idea! If so then it would be with hubby when we were at someones house but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen mistletoe used that much.
24. Watched the sunrise with someone you care about One year my family went to Grand Canyon on vacation. We made it a point to get up before dawn one morning to go to a recommended spot to see the sunrise, it was glorious! And I was with hubby and kids, I care about them a great deal! We also hiked to the bottom, spent the night and got up before dawn the next day for the twice as long trek back up. That day I was more focused on making it out in one piece instead of watching the sunrise.
25. Blown bubbles I brought bubbles with me to TX for Grayson and Ava Clair! And Katelyn had some already when I visited her a couple of weeks ago…so twice in a month is pretty good I bet! I don’t blow them in my drink though, do you?
26. Gone ice-skating Yes, when I was growing up there was someplace in Jackson that I tried it. It seems like for some reason it was at the Coliseum for some special event but I have no idea now what it was. But I remember that I wasn’t very good at it, not strong enough ankles I think even though I roller skated. I think we’ve ice skated on some of our ski trips before too.
27. Been skinny dipping outdoors Never, ever ever! And never ever will! That’s just not something I would do, am way too modest for that!

So that’s it for this one……….unless you have any questions you want to ask me that I can answer later!
