“No time to say hello, good-bye,
I’m late, I’m late, I’m late.”
My house looks like a bomb went off in it! So I need to make a date to clean today…..and I need a normal week with not much else going on. I thought I would get around to blog visiting when I got home but it didn’t happen while miss Katelyn was here. She’s gone now to the beach with her parents but a few hours after she left I got the worst migraine; the only thing I can do is take something and go to bed to sleep it off. The next day I always feel like I’ve been run over by a mack truck! (my daughter told me red hot dogs could trigger migraines, which I ate on the 4th and I read that sharp cheddar could also trigger them….that was in the dip I made! Anyone know if those are true?)
I’m hoping to regroup this week.
1. I need a menu so I’ll feel organized
2. Probably need to grocery shop
3. Desperately need to wash clothes
4. The mending still needs to be worked on
5. Put away kids toys/equipment
I’m sure there’s more but that will get me started……..then I hope to pop around and visit! I’ve missed everyone.
“Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da ”
I’m home, extremely tired, behind on blogs and will try to catch up soon! The car was packed with not an inch of extra room, the trip was very long too. We only brought home 2 of Kathryn’s 5 boxes of china; brought something else home instead! Better than china.
Wanna see?

I’ve been thinking for a few weeks that I might should make another quick trip to North Carolina before the kids moved back. It would be a good time for Elizabeth to go with me and Kathryn thought we could help keep the kids occupied for them. So this past weekend when E got through with her classes we headed out. We shopped in Birmingham a bit for her but she didn’t find what she was looking for. We stopped and spent that night on the road so we could break up the driving. Then in South Carolina we made an impromptu stop at a farm stand we kept seeing signs for! They had tons of peaches and peach related foods, so we bought a bottle of Cheerwine to split! I have read the Mitford books which mention someone having a bottle of cheerwine but had never had it or heard of it. It’s more of a Carolina thing I think; we decided it was a bit like a cherry coke.
We’ve been here for a few days just visiting and trying to help out some. We’ve played with the kids, been swimming a few times, packed a few boxes, and hustled everyone out on short notice so the realtor could show the house. Tuesday someone looked twice and has emailed back with questions so we’re praying that something will come from that showing!
We’re driving home today; bringing Kathryn’s china with us and stopping in Tuscaloosa for the rest of Elizabeth’s boxes from when she moved out a few weeks ago. We’re a little tired and might be even more so after an 11-12 hour drive home but it was a fun last minute trip that I’m glad I was able to make with a sweet daughter along for the ride!
The past month or two has been a busy sewing time for me. It seems like there were a lot of babies being born! I usually like to make burp cloths to give and sometimes the girls in the family hire me to do them so they have gifts to give as well. I’m happy to say that last week I think I finished up the last of what I needed to do, a HUGE relief to me!
Just boring sewing stuff with pictures on the extended page. 😆

It’s been really hot in the south lately, and what better way to cool off than in the pool! Not me of course but the kiddies. My daughter called and told me recently that she bought one for the backyard because it was too hard for one person to take a toddler and a nine month old to a real pool alone. Then when I was in Texas I got the same kind of pool for the kids there, they have a new baby too so something for the backyard works great. I remember well those days of having toddlers at home! I think we had blue backyard pools that looked just about like these.
TX kids

NC kids….but soon to be MS kids! Katelyn keeps telling me on the phone that she’s moving to Mis’sippi!

I might just have to go buy one of these pools for my house/backyard just in case any of these cuties come to visit me! :
(p.s. for me, so I will have it written down somewhere 🙂
I was talking to Kathryn on the phone today and Katelyn came into the room so she got on and talked briefly, very quietly. Kathryn says she gets really quiet when she talks on the phone and nods her head a lot. She called back 2 more times after that because she figured out how to dial the cell phone herself! I made one more phone call to them about a bible study book I was sending when Kathryn told me that after the last conversation I had with Katelyn she brought the cell phone to her mama and said she wanted to call me again. Kat told her she’d talked to me 3 times and that was enough but Katelyn told her, “I want to call Deedee 6 times!”
Kids, too cute some days!)

How’s your Monday so far?
A busy week, and I think everyone seems to be having those lately! A quick recap of things we’ve had going on.
* We need rain!
* Oldest son broke his wrist….playing church basketball! He has a cast that he’ll have to wear from 2-6 weeks and I think it’s hampering him from doing a lot of things right now. I asked if he got a colored cast and he said yes, black. That’s not a color, especially for summer!
* Married daughter in Charlotte called about a week ago and told us they are moving back to Mississippi! YAY! They’ll live just under 2 hours from us instead of that 11-12 hours that it has been…..and the babies will be close enough for me to snap away from them sometime! I hope they let me.
* I finished the last of many burps the girls hired me to make and some other sewing projects, it feels good to be through. Pictures coming soon I think but I’m afraid it’ll be too many to show. 🙂
* We watched the movie August Rush this week; a little bit tear jerky but I kinda liked it. Hubby and E didn’t like it quite as much as they’d hoped to.
* New credit card just came in….we had to cancel it again for the 2nd time in 3 months. Some unnamed person lost his billfold. I hate being without it!
* I hope I’ve learned a lesson….

It has felt like summer for several weeks now here where I live but it officially starts tomorrow! Which means today marks the end of Katrina’s Spring Reading challenge, and time for a wrap up post. One thing I was not very good about doing this time were reviews; I love to read and peruse others for ideas but I don’t seem to be good at posting them myself. Here was my list this time:
Summer of the Midnight Sun
Under the Northern Lights
Whispers of Winter all by Tracie Peterson & part of the Alaskan Quest series
The Secret Life of Becky Miller by Sharon Hinck
Hidden History and
Ready to Wed both by Melody Carlson
With This Ring I’m Confused by Kristin Billerbeck
The Best Life Diet by Bob Greene (almost finished!)
*The Best Life book is one I bought and have started reading several times but just can’t get into; I did do a little better this time with it! But I’m not quite through….about halfway through the book with the remainder being recipes and I’ve skimmed through all the recipes at least once. I think I’ll finish going through the other few chapters I have left, maybe hitting the high parts but it’s just not something I’m totally into right now. Even though I should be!
*The Secret Life of Becky Miller was a new to me author; it was a little different in that each chapter started off with one of the character’s daydreams. She has some highly imaginative fantasies and is a supermom trying to juggle her day to day life….it was a pretty enjoyable read.
*Hidden History and Ready to Wed are books from the Grace Chapel Inn series. They are easy, comfy type reads about sisters who’ve turned the family home into a bed and breakfast.
* The Tracie Peterson books were a really enjoyable read for me. I like historical type fiction, they’re also christian fiction and reading about Alaska interested me at the moment. I’ve never been there but would like to, plus my youngest son moved to Alaska this summer to work so it was fun for me to read about places there!
*With This Ring I’m Confused is actually the 3rd book in the Ashley Stockingdale series of books by Billerbeck. I didn’t realize 2 others came first but several people kindly told me so I wouldn’t read them out of order, which I hate to do! So I also read, What a Girls Wants and She’s Out of Control by Billerbeck first. I absolutely loved these books! I thought they were smart, witty and fun; they reminded me a bit of the Shopaholic books but with chrisitan characters and plot. These were the ones I liked the best out of what I read on my list. They are the first I’ve read by this author but I think I’ll find others by her as well later on!
The books by Kristin Billerbeck were my favorite reads from this list! The non-fiction Best Life book being my least favorite…I just don’t seem to love non-fiction at all but having it on the list at least made me attempt to get through the majority of the book.
Katrina also asks if we’d be interested in a Fall Reading challenge, absolutely! I enjoy doing these and would love to join in again.

“….. soft and warm is your bed”
One of the projects I worked on before making this last trip to Texas was a little quilt for new baby Henry. Now that he’s a couple months old, I need to stop calling him the new baby! I’m still feeling my way through doing a blanket so mine are very simple and maybe not “real” quilts at all yet….I have to work my way up to that. Regular sewing and the burps are easier for me but I’m pretty happy with the way this turned out. I hope they like it and will enjoy using it too!

Now who doesn’t love new music, and a giveaway is sweet too! Coach Jenny has the new David Crowder Band cd Remedy to give away at her place and it sounds really good. My kids listen to him I do believe and if I remember correctly, my daughter in law knew him at Baylor. How fun is that! I’d love a chance to have this cd.
So pop by her place for a chance to win and let me know if you’re the one that gets it! I can rejoice with you!
When the new baby was born almost 2 months ago, my DIL found a diaper pouch she wanted us to make. Since I haven’t had babies in a bit I wasn’t all that familiar with them; but it’s something to put in your purse or bag that holds 3 or so diapers and maybe a small travel case of wipes. It sounded really handy! That ended up being the one and only thing we sewed while I was visiting! I didn’t do any prep stuff or check out the instructions but should have. Figuring out patterns is not always my strong suit. The directions said about half an hour of time… um yeah, that didn’t happen. It seemed like it took all 3 of us half a day or more to get it all done…..there were kids and babies around but I still felt not very bright at all. Shanna picked out some cute fabric, I’m hoping she’ll be able to use this pouch as well because I think in the long run it looks ok.

“oh what can it mean”
I’m cheering up for a couple of reasons today I hope.
* In a bit I’m taking the last of those dumb pills I’ve been taking for 10 days! I’m SO ready to be over with those.. they worked out really great the first few days. Took all my pain away, made my foot/tendonitis feel incredibly better but after a day or so it was another kind of pain. The main side effect for me has been the insomnia and I’m totally exhausted from lack of sleep. I’m jittery too and really need a good night’s sleep…got my fingers crossed for tonight!
* Hubby got daughter moved from Alabama while I was gone. She’s here taking a course to get a teacher’s license and is around for me to see, eat with and visit with. Oh it’s way more fun for me than her but I’m enjoying her while she’s around! (of course all her furniture plus all of youngest son’s stuff got moved here as well, eek….but only temporarily we think!)
* Father’s day shopping today…..hey maybe just the word shopping will perk me up!
* and if I get some plants in the ground that I’ve been putting off, it will be even nicer!
I usually never have any problem having no caffeine on a daily basis but these last couple of days I’ve slipped a bit. It gets me going plus I get to drink coffee with Liz in the morning and that has been a treat! But I don’t like the headaches that go with it so I’m off to find another way to get my morning going.
What makes you happy today?
I’m home from Texas…….a long drive, I’m exhausted and pretty much worth nothing at the moment. I so need to regroup today but am going to start with a few pictures from the party! Ava Clair turned four last week and my DIL and son threw her a little backyard carnival party. The birthday girl referred to it as her cotton candy party, because that seemed to be the main attraction!
They had some little backyard games set up for the kids, along with a tent canopy, tables, food, trampoline, etc……

“that I’m going there to see..”
I’m actually already in Texas! I only worked 4 days of bible school last week and left Friday morning driving out for a special little girl’s 4th birthday party, fun times. Hubby was due to go with me but work got too crazy busy plus someone needed to move a daughter from Alabama back to Mississippi and he seemed the likely one. His mom drove with me instead, we had a long trip, then a party in the middle of the day Saturday. Church today with some other family coming by to visit. We’ll sew a bit tomorrow and then go home in another day after that. I’ll have to share some pictures later. I still don’t know how all you fun chicks do this… work, kids, keep house, various and other sundry things, plus blog at the same time! You totally amaze me because I can’t seem to do it. So I’ll be back later with more info, something new to post and hopefully just a few pictures.
Hope your Monday will be the start of a great week!
I am a BAREFOOT kind of girl! Always have been….I go barefoot around the house all the time, outside too and love it. I sit with my feet and legs curled up under me and I get down on the floor to cut out fabric and do some sewing things. All of which I’ve decided must not be very good for you at all and I think I’m paying for it now. I’ve had plantar fasciitis on the bottoms of my feet for quite a few years now but that mostly just hurts when I first get out of bed in the morning so I’ve learned to deal with and adjust to that. But 3 weeks ago, or maybe a month, I noticed one day after starting back walking that my ankle and back of my ankle was really hurting; bad enough that I just couldn’t walk again and thought it needed rest. It has been swollen too. So I started wearing some tennis shoes around the house all.the.time. Hubby thought it quite odd that I was wearing them with my pj’s even! I thought it made my foot feel better; until Monday when I went to bible school wearing the only flowery/beachy looking top I had and figured flip flops are what you wear to look beachy! Alas, I think flip flops are NO good for your feet….especially if an ankle is hurt. I decided Tuesday morning to call one of the GP’s from our church for an appointment that afternoon. He poked around on it, lots harder than I do! All the while looking at me, for my reaction I suppose……..and he’s darn lucky I didn’t accidentally kick him when he hit the tender spot. 🙂 It is exactly what I thought it must be, a pretty good case of Achilles tendonitis. He said we could try some things and do some other stuff but how bad did I want it gone. To which I quickly replied, bad! As in now. So he said we should cut to the chase and do a steroid pack. I got a dexpak from the drugstore, directions on how to do it. And he said I should probably ice it 3-4 times a day along with getting a heel pad to put in my shoes to help take some of the pressure off. You so wanted to see the ankle didn’t you!
