Just got home this evening from a spring break trip with some of the kids! We went skiing in Snowmass, Colorado and had a blast. One of our favorite places to ski……the weather was great, sunny and warm.
But now I’m all thumbs, thanks to a weird fall I took on the snow. Details later, maybe! Sister Stacy asked to see my hurt thumb, how sweet! But I’ll tell you, a picture of your thumbs is not good no matter how pretty your hands are (and mine aren’t). So enter at your own risk:

It’s been really warm here in the South lately and feeling very spring-like. I might be a little early with this but I decided to put my Easter egg wreath up on my door. I think Easter is about 3 weeks or so from now so maybe not too early! I was happy with how it turned out last year and it fared pretty well hanging in my attic so I’m glad to use it again. Happy spring y’all!

I got caught up on watching my 24 tape yesterday so we’re all ready for the “Jack Bauer Power Hour” tonight! Don commented yesterday that Jack had been in a Chinese prison for 2 years, never spoke a word, was probably tortured, and on the day he gets out he has to go save the world again. Said he hadn’t seen him sleep or eat and he looked to be very physically fit!
I was in the mood to do something and yes, I’m all “GORE-MAY” here today people! So we’ll munch on these with friends while Jack does his thing, and let’s hope it’s an action packed show tonight!

Sugar Chocolate covered pretzels, nothing too fancy!

Not sure I’ll be able to stick to the plan this week, we’ll be seeing some of our kids and some meals might get changed around. But here’s the rough draft on what I’m doing! Go and visit our hostess Laura at Organizing Junkie for everyone else’s menus, they might be a bit more organized than me this week!

Sunday………………Catfish Allison, stir fry veggies
Monday…………….Grilled chicken wraps and roasted potatoes
Tuesday……………Baked Hoisin Salmon
Wednesday……….eat out
Thursday-Saturday…..we might have spaghetti, baked chicken and one other meal the kids might pick later!

Have a good week.

I’ll be seeing this little sweetie pie in the next week or so! She’s flying out to Colorado to meet us when we go skiing; well technically her parents are bringing her but the important part is that she’s coming to see me, right! Or are they coming because they can go skiing, yep bet that’s it! I haven’t seen her in a few months and she’s started walking since I’ve seen then so she should be really moving around now. Looking forward to it, even if I am sorta dreading being cold again after experiencing 70 degree temps here in the south.
What a cutie pie!

She might wear her new snow suit and look like the cutest little snow bunny

Now if I could just see these other two sweetie pies, I’d be a very happy camper!

Wow, some of you are really good! Barb, Brenda, Claire and Lynne knew what it was and had heard of “antimacassar” before. This one had me stumped……it is a small covering placed on the backs or arms of chairs to prevent wear or soiling. I would have just called it a doily! I did think it was interesting that I read in the 1800’s (Victorian times) the practice of oiling the hair became very popular and fashionable, and the oil used many times was called macassar oil. Due to the tendency for the oil to transfer from a gentleman’s hair to the back of the chair he was sitting on, the antimacassar was developed. The term became associated with the Victorian period. Antimacassars can sometimes still be found on the backs of airline seats.
And Brenda was correct, the children’s television show Big Comfy Couch had a character named Auntie Macassar.
This is probably one word that I’ll remember out of all the many I looked up recently!

Oh and I did email you (sis) Stacy about the song…..as Lynne commented on the last post, it is a song by the Bee Gees called “Words”. I might have sent you a link to it so let me know if you didn’t get it.

I used to think that I was fairly intelligent/educated, I got a college degree and even taught school a few years! But lately while reading I’ve been coming across more words that I have NO idea what they mean and it makes me feel a bit dumb! Sometimes I can tell what they mean from the sentence it’s used in and sometimes it doesn’t give me much clue. I’ve gotten to where I keep a running list while reading (with the page number where I found it) and look them up when I’m done or have a fairly long list. I’ve already thrown my last list away but one of the words really stuck with me, and this one I’ll probably remember for a while although I don’t think it’s used much anymore. It’ s not used in my neck of the woods anyway! The word is antimacassar…….do you know what it means? This was used several times in one of the Mitford series of books I’ve been reading. I’ll give this a bit and see if anyone wants to tell what it means and then I’ll come back and update at the bottom of the post with the definition. Stacy, we talked about this when I saw you last weekend and I think I gave you a simplified, one word definition of it which might not have been completely accurate so maybe you know what the more complete definition might be. I hope I’m not the only one that doesn’t know this word and I hope 5th graders don’t know it! I might have to go back to school!

I had almost forgotten to share good news that we have! About a week or two ago daughter Kathryn called to tell us that they would be having another baby! She’s due in October, so still has a way to go but they are excited none the less. It’s hard since they are in Charlotte and we are in Mississippi, makes me feel like I miss out on some things. I imagine that she will have us sewing some this summer to get a room ready. She’s already been to the doctor and everything is fine for the moment. The Dr. even told her that she could go skiing with us! That surprised me a bit but they are planning on meeting us in Colorado later this month for a ski trip.
Little Katelyn has no idea what is in store for her later this year!

I’m “stealing” this from Stacy! Have seen it at several sites and it looked like something I could do. And I’ll just go ahead and tell you the song because Stacy won’t know it, I’m the only one in this family probably that listens to Frank Sinatra! Except for Kathryn and she doesn’t read this.

1. If you could build a house anywhere, where would it be? If I’m replacing the one I’m in, somewhere in a bigger city close to an airport sort of in the middle of all my kids so I can fly out different directions to visit them! If I’m getting a second house, tough choice……….maybe in the mountains (but not to live full time!), hubby wants another house on a golf course somewhere!

2.What is your favorite article of clothing? Jeans, followed closely by a velour sweat pants and jacket set.

3. Last C.D. you bought? Gosh I bet it’s been at least a year since I’ve bought a CD, the last one I remember getting was Tina Turner All the Best. I guess I should remedy this problem immediately! I’ve had my ipod over a year and mostly now I just buy individual songs instead of a whole CD.

4. Where is your favorite place to be? Maybe home, although I have lots of places I love to visit. I like to go to big cities once in a while like New York City but wouldn’t want to live there; like to go to the mountains some and the beach a little less frequently but wouldn’t want to live there either.

5. Least favorite place to be? Hmm, I guess I probably wouldn’t like being in a bar!

6. Are you strongest in mind or body? Mind

7. What time do you wake up? Usually around 6 or 6:30

8. Favorite kitchen appliance? I like my Kitchen Aid mixer but don’t use it nearly as much as microwave or dishwasher!

9. What instrument would you like to play? Piano but I always just wanted to be able to play it without putting any work into it! Guitar might be fun.

10. Favorite color? Green

11. Sports car of SUV? SUV, I drive a suburban right now.

12. Favorite children’s book? One, I can’t pick one! I love Goodnight Moon, The Velveteen Rabbit and Love You Forever to read to kids. I loved reading Nancy Drew books when I was a girl and I think I remember liking A Wrinkle in Time also.

13. Favorite season? Spring, fall would come a close second!

14. Least favorite chore? Cleaning the bathrooms, dusting

15. Favorite day? Friday maybe.

16. Favorite food? Chocolate! Although I like lots of foods.

17. Favorite drink? I mostly drink water…….french vanilla cappucino and coke once in a very blue moon!

18. Favorite word? I don’t think I have one! But I say “whatever” a lot, better work on that!

19. Favorite inspirational book? Well other than the Bible, I like Les Miserables, Zion Chronicles and Zion Covenant series by Brock & Bodie Thoene.

20. Who would you like to play you in the movie of you life? I don’t think I can honestly think of anyone!

“Tell me, honey, with a smile
I can walk you down the aisle
I won’t even need a shove
Can I steal a little love?

“Oh What a Beautiful Day”………….It’s just wonderful outside here today! The sun is shining, birds are chirping and not too much wind. That is what I usually don’t like much about March here, way too windy. I got the urge to putter around outside so here’s a few pictures.

This past Saturday we helped host a marriage blessing/dinner party for the daughter of one of our friends. We met, planned, invited, prepared, cooked; about an hour before the party started, the worst thunderstorms came through and dropped bucket loads of rain! We were under a tornado warning and found out later that some places in town had damage from all the winds. It was almost enough to make us cry for the people trying to get there! But the show goes on you know, and I think a good time was had by all.

Maybe? Hopefully!
My sis Stacy and her hubby Tim have been having problems with the computer that runs their main website, thus our blogs have been down too! They are having a time of it; we couldn’t get on most of yesterday and I’m just noticing that I can get on now but that might be temporary while they are working on it. So maybe soon everyone will be back up and running. I think they’ve had to buy one new hard drive and will possibly have to get another one but I haven’t talked to her this morning to see where they are with things. I appreciate all they do with the website so that I’m able to have a blog there as well. Tim has his normal everyday job to tend to as well as maintaining their family website so he has a lot going on.
If everything stays up I’ll try to post something new and visit everyone later!
