Check out Laura’s place for her menus/ideas and all the other participants.

Monday…..all on the grill if it’s not raining, chicken, pineapple, veggie kabobs
Tuesday…..Grilled salmon, green beans
Wednesday….we are going to a cookout with friends so I’m bringing crunchy slaw, a family favorite that my kids ask for every time they’re home!

Last night after Stacy & Tim took me to supper, I fell asleep reclining in a chair at their house! I started feeling sick late yesterday…..headache, sneezing, cough, throat kinda stuff. I felt a bit better this morning but I think that’s because I slept about 10+ hours last night and usually I feel better in the mornings rather than night. Now that I’m home, I’m feeling very tired and I ache a bit so I’m about to crawl in bed. I might have caught a cold from Kathryn or I wonder if it’s because I might have done this about eleventy hundred times with baby Katelyn……..

I flew home from Charlotte early yesterday morning! Stacy picked me up at the airport and as we are prone to do, we shopped and ran errands for a bit, ate lunch and then drove to her house. I was very tired and just didn’t go home yesterday afternoon; I barely stayed awake through supper, then promptly fell asleep and slept most of the night. But I am going home this morning sometime so maybe I can regroup and get caught up. I’m very behind on blogging and visiting all of you! I hope to get around later today or tomorrow to see what’s going on. I missed being able to visit with you guys!

Yesterday I flew to Charlotte to visit with Kathryn, Jeremy and little Katelyn. My flight was early out of Jackson and Stacy graciously took me to the airport and is keeping my car at her house. On the second leg of the flight, from Atlanta to Charlotte, the flight attendant got on the intercom about midway into our short flight to make an announcement. She said that there was someone special on board, a soldier who’d been serving a long tour of duty. He was sitting toward the rear of the plane and she asked that we allow him to get off the plane first. He’d been traveling for three long days and was anxious to see his wife. I wondered briefly what the reaction would be at the end of the flight, usually my experience is that everyone gets up immediately to get out into the aisle first. When we arrived at the gate everyone stayed seated; the flight attendant got back on the intercom, announced his name and asked that he please come forward to exit the plane. As he stood and began to make his way down the aisle the plane erupted into applause and continued until he was off the plane. I got a bit teary eyed when it happened! We saw him in baggage claim when Kathryn picked me up, I pointed him out and told her about it and she got teary too!
I’ve not experienced that when flying before, but thought it was kinda neat. It does make me proud to be an American! I’m thankful that we have men and women that serve in the military to defend our country and keep us safe.

A couple of weeks ago I was able to go visit my kids in Texas. I had a fun time and got lots of hugs around my neck from these little cuties!

No menu planning for me this week and I won’t have as much time to visit you all. I’m going to see this other cutie pie in North Carolina:

Maybe I’ll get more hugs! And pictures too I bet. I love them bunches!
I’ll check in when I can. Have a great Monday!

“Down here all the fish is happy”

Last week I wrote that I would fix tilapia one night and a couple of people asked me about it, and what it was! Sometimes I take it for granted that things are the same in all parts of the country or world and it may not always be that way. We eat a LOT of fish and I also forget that other people don’t! When I was visiting with my kids in Texas a few weeks ago Shanna & Trent told me about a bag of tilapia they had bought at Sam’s, already seasoned & ready to bake. You can put it in the oven straight from the freezer and it’s done in about 20 minutes, my kind of thing when I need something quick! I went to Sam’s with Stacy last week and we each bought a bag to try out. I baked a couple of pieces the other night for out supper and we both liked it. Don even commented several times that it was good! I’ve bought tilapia before but he usually doesn’t like it as well as some other kinds of fish so this is a nice alternative to have occasionally. I’ll also try it on bread or buns for sandwiches, Trent said it makes good fish sandwiches!

The Spring Reading Thing hosted by Katrina ended this week and it’s time to do a brief recap of it. I kept my list shorter this time, only had 5 books on it and my original list is in this post. I also did a couple of reviews for them along the way, here and here.
Here’s a few of the questions that Katrina asked us about when finished.
What was the best book you read this spring? I think I would say The Year of Pleasures by Elizabeth Berg. It was a bit different than things I normally read and good for me to try something different.

What book could you have done without? I enjoyed them all, for the most part. Two that I already had & read, Colorado Weddings and Kentucky Keepers were very light and predictable stories written by Christian authors….they weren’t very deep and sometimes become fairly standard & a bit boring but I do keep reading these kind, interspersed with other books.

Did you try out a new author this spring? If so, which one, and will you be reading that author again? Elizabeth Berg was a new author to me and I enjoyed her book and I think I would read other books by her…..as soon as I whittle down the pile I’m working on now!

If there were books you didn’t finish, tell us why. Did you run out of time? No I was able to finish all of mine.

Did you come across a book on other participants’ list that you’re planning to add to your own to be read pile? I’ve seen several and Uncharted comes to mind as one I think I’d like to read sometime. Last week I also ordered The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards; I’ve seen lots of people talk about it and thought I’d want to read it and my library doesn’t have it! So it’ll be coming soon to me.

What was the best part of the Spring Reading Thing? I love seeing everyone’s lists and ideas on what to read. It also helps me read things I have here rather than going to get something new. This time also Katrina had fun book give aways and everyone enjoyed those!

Would you be interested in participating in another reading challenge this fall? I believe so!

Look for a new challenge in the fall and join in the fun next time if you haven’t done this before! Thanks again Katrina for organizing it.

Got tagged for a couple of things recently and just have not gotten around to doing them so I’m trying to play catch up today.

Southern Girl tagged me for a Page 12 meme.
Here’s how it goes:
1. Pick up a book that is near to you
2. Go to page twelve in the book
3. Read the first two sentences and post it on your blog
4. Also post the book title and the name of the author
5. Tag 3 other people

“He studied the Milan, a delightful chocolate layer in between two golden ovals of shortcake and wondered if he shouldn’t warn Father Dennis. Since his arrival at the parish several years ago, the younger man had traditionally gone on holiday this time of year.”

Not overly exciting stuff so far, it’s only page 12 after all! The book is The County Fair by Katherine Valentine. I’m not going to tag anyone but would love if someone else plays along….be sure to let me know so I can come see what you’re reading.

Right before the craziness of Bible school week, Debi tagged me for another meme, 7 things I like about me…..I’m not good at doing this meme, these are very hard for me to do!
Let’s see:
1. I like that I’m married, I think I’m a pretty good wife!
2. Love children and think I’m a pretty good mom too……although there’s times my kids would say differently.
3. I’m a good friend
4. I can keep a secret…..if people tell me something they don’t want told, I can keep it to myself with no problem.
5. I like that I’m a reader…..I’ve loved to read all my life but am finally having more time for it now.
6. I like that I’m a pretty good cook. Don appreciates it too because he really likes to eat!
7. For the most part I’m kind & tenderhearted, I like that and try to always be that way.
I’m supposed to tag others I think but that was hard enough, no tagging on this either!

Ooh and I forgot that Annie gave me & Stacy something, rockin’ girl blogger! Thanks Annie, I think YOU rock! She picked some good ones that I might have said too so I think I won’t name anyone right now……. I think ALL my blogging friends are rockin girls!
There’s some amazing women out there and I’m glad to have “met” you!

This week Don has been in Tennessee again working, kinda like he’s done for the past several weeks! Last week I had bible school and pretty much had to stay here but this week I had nothing so I could run to Jackson and see Stacy & Tim; of course shopping was a reason to go too! Yesterday after Stacy & I had been gone for most of the day Tim called to tell her that he was on his way to the driving range. She passed the phone to me because she thought Tim could talk me into staying another night…..I started right in with saying something and for a few seconds I think Tim didn’t know if he was talking to Stacy or me! He’s only been married to her for like 11 years I think. People have told us for a long time that we sound alike.
Annie recently left Stacy a comment saying that we will say the same things in comments but in a bit different way. If she thinks we sound alike in comments I guess she should hear us in person! I don’t think we sound that much alike but I don’t Like to listen to my voice much either. The few times I’ve heard myself on the answering machine I don’t think it sounds like me at all! I didn’t like doing the outgoing message on our phone, I made Don record it!
Do you like to hear your voice recorded? Do you sound like anyone else? (Ok sorry Stacy, I know asking questions & question of the day is your kind of thing but I don’t do it often! You might can still use this idea or tweak it some for you later on….and surely I finally used a song you know!)

(We might have shopped and bought just a bit too much! But had fun. Gotta run get my hair done this morning but might be back later.)

“There was a telephone and a red balloon and a picture of-
the cow jumping over the moon………..

Goodnight room, Goodnight Moon!”
Do you know the book?!

It’s a book I will probably never forget. It was read over and over for many years at our house, very much an all time favorite. As we would read it we’d use softer & softer voices, hoping to lull them to sleep I guess. All 4 of our kids loved it and we went through quite a few copies if I remember correctly! When my oldest child was just a baby or toddler, my mother in law made him a pillow for his bed using a scene from the book, we’ve always called it the Goodnight Moon pillow. I’ve kept it all this time because, well because I seem to keep way too many things, it was made for him and because I couldn’t bear to throw it out! I had been thinking for a while that I need to give it to Grayson, thought he might enjoy it or maybe Trent would enjoy him having it! The cover was in pretty good shape but the pillow on the inside had broken down a bit. Before I went to Texas I bought a new pillow to go inside the pillow cover and got it all fixed up for Grayson. He was sorta excited about it! I didn’t realize until I got home that I didn’t get a pic of him with it but here’s the goodnight moon pillow!

We didn’t have a green room when Trent was little, he had blue so it matched his room! It stayed on his bed for many years while he was growing up. I’m glad that we kept it and could pass it along!

“Goodnight stars, goodnight air, goodnight noises everywhere.”

I probably shouldn’t even try to participate this week! Recently my meals/menus have not been happening as planned and this week could be the same way again. I think I’m only going to plan a couple of things because of that. Not cooking much, it could be a good thing I suppose. 🙂
Be sure to visit Laura to see what everyone else is having and the “real” menus they post! Thanks for hosting Laura.

*I’ll try to fix this Slow cooker Thai chicken this week because that’s one I didn’t get to last week.
*Tilapia, veggies and salad another night.

Right now that’s all I can plan, several nights this week seem to be up in the air as far as anyone being around for a meal. I did do Annie’s crockpot meatloaf last week, you can scroll through this post to find it and it was very good! I made a few changes based on what I had on hand but when Don came home to it one night, he kept saying, this is really good! And he had meatloaf at lunch that day and said it was not good at all so I imagine I’ll do it again sometime. Thanks Annie!
Happy Monday!

I’ve seen people posting about this contest and decided to jump in and put my name in the hat! Five Minutes for Mom is having another one of their great give aways and any new mom would be excited to have this one I think! They’re giving away 2 baskets of fun goodies from the new line of Playskool/CVS baby products. Check it out and maybe you’d like to enter too. I’m entering for my daughter Kathryn, she’s having a baby in the early fall! This one will be a boy and his name is Sam!

Our bible school ended at noon each day this week and then afterward a group of us got together to eat lunch……every. single. day! One of my friends had a 3 year old grandson with her and it sorta kept him entertained some by eating out. We went to Wendy’s and the Pizza Hut buffet on 2 different days, then to a couple of local coffeeshop/cafe type places for 2 other days. On Fridays we always have a program for parents at church and feed everyone hot dogs, chips, dessert. I’m glad today was the last day because I CAN’T keep eating out all the time, it’s just not good for me! But everyone told me, “we don’t do this but once a year”! And they’re right, most of them work or teach school and we don’t do these kinds of things except maybe once during the summer. So it was fun to eat together and catch up with each other! My waist or hips might pay for it next week
though. 😳
I’m a little glad bible school is over; it was a very long week. Got all the decorations torn back down and the Sunday school rooms put back together. We hope we taught them a little more about Jesus in the process.
But this little piggy needs to stay home, for a few days anyway!

This is something else I bought for myself at Target last week……….something to put/dock my iPod in so I could play music in the house without having to put on earphones! I think I’ve actually been using my iPod more this way. Been thinking about getting something like this for a while and really had no idea what I wanted but sorta went overboard buying stuff in Target last week. 😆

This little thing actually sounds pretty good and even though I got it with the intention of putting it in my den or entertainment center, I haven’t moved it out of the kitchen where I first plugged it up to try! Too lazy to do it so far but I’ll get it moved around eventually. It’s been fun to have so far.

I love Target! I’m sure it’s partly because I don’t live close to one so it’s a treat to go. When Stacy picked me up at the airport last week, we hit the store that day. One of the things I ended up buying was a tote bag that I thought I probably shouldn’t have gotten & didn’t need; Stacy talked me into it. 😆 I normally use a backpack when traveling or for carrying my books and such. For several days after I got it I thought I might end up taking it back. BUT, this week I’ve used it every day when going to Bible school for carrying all my teaching supplies in plus money, etc! I still sorta wish this one had green on it somewhere but so far I’ve really enjoyed using it! I guess I’ll just have to get a different color one sometime so I can change them up! Can you ever have too many bags?
I think not!

The inside didn’t have a lot of compartments but it does have a zippered pocket in the light blue lining where I put things like money, lip gloss etc. And there is an attached zippered small pouch that is in the same striped fabric as the outside of the bag. And the green ball is what we used in bible school yesterday to play “noodle hockey” with….. only we kinda, sorta changed it to “noodle golf”. 😆

Oooh, got something else fun too! Care to guess? It’s not fashiony but more gadgety….. maybe I’ll show you later!
