When I started this blog, almost 2 years ago now, I really had no idea what I was doing or where I was going with it! I know you’re thinking I still don’t know and many times that’s true. 😆 Back then I didn’t even have a name for my blog, posted sporadically and really had no readers. I found myself using song lyrics and titles a good bit, and Stacy stayed on me until I came up with a name; hence the “More than a song”……it had the added benefit of being a line from a worship song I knew, The Heart of Worship. And I’ve also been saying that I can put an emphasis on the “more” part because at times I use phrases, sayings, slogans, tv shows, etc. I’m not very creative to start with but lately I seem to be coming up dry many days. Here’s the part of “this one’s for you”! There are tons of songs/lyrics/titles out there, more than I could ever use in a lifetime. What are some of your favorite lines from songs or something that’s really wacky or catchy. What/who do you like to listen to? Sometimes I think I might use stuff that’s too obscure and no one recognizes it.
If you give me a line from a song, it might remind me of something else to use and my brain seems to work in that weird way! Any list of songs will probably make me think of other things as well. I went looking for something to use for a post I wanted to do about this past weekend but found this song instead. So I decided to ask you to see what songs might be running through your mind. Oh, and do you know this song? (there’s another line in this song that might turn up later)
Leave me a comment, with material please!

Hop on over to Organizing Junkie for more meal ideas, thanks Laura for hosting.

This book meme has been popping up a lot lately and it looked fun so I thought I’d jump in and do it too.
Stacy got it from Karen and others have done it too that I read, Lynne and Susanne both come to mind and I might be forgetting someone else!

What are you reading right now? The Sacrifice, 3rd in the Abram’s Daughters series by Beverly Lewis

Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that? I have several checked out from the library so will probably work on those, Susannah’s Garden, Wish You Well and the remaining ones of this series I’m on.

What magazines do you have in your bathroom right now? ummm, none! But elsewhere in the house I have Southern Living, Better Homes & Gardens and Good Housekeeping.

What’s the worst thing you were ever forced to read? I can’t think that I’ve ever been forced to read anything. When my kids were younger I always read their required summer reading books before they did, because I’m a picky overprotective helpful, involved parent that way! One book that a couple of the kids had to read, A Separate Peace, I did not like at all and didn’t think the school should have required it; I think they got some negative feedback and eventually changed it to another book but it’s the only one that comes to my mind that I didn’t really like. It might have also been that I didn’t think it was appropriate reading for a young teenager.

What’s the one book you always recommend to just about everyone? Only one, no way!
I love Les Miserables! Anything by Karen Kingsbury or Brock & Bodie Thoene especially the Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles series.

Admit it, the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don’t they? I actually think one of the girls in there does know my name now! She’s been helpful to request some books for me using the inter library loan thing and she calls me when something comes in that I’ve requested or put on hold. She usually tells me she doesn’t need my card, I think because she’s already looked all my stuff up on the computer by the time I get to the desk!

Is there a book you absolutely love, but for some reason, people never think it sounds interesting, or maybe they read it and don’t like it at all? I can’t think of anything, although I don’t think anyone has ever read Les Mis when I’ve told them about it, mabye because they don’t think it would be good!

Do you read books while you do other things? Probably, and I might have had to learn because of so many people always being in the house! I can read lots of times with the tv on, in the car with all the family, on planes, in lobbies and waiting rooms etc. Not sure if that’s what it means by other things.

When you were little, did other children tease you about your reading habits? Not that I remember.

What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down? I might not stay up half the night but I read til almost midnight many nights, I love to read in bed at night! A few years ago when I did read Les Mis (and I read it because my kids had to read it in the summer!) I stayed up late finishing it, crying the whole time and hoping for a certain ending. If I ever get into a book it’s hard for me to put it down. One night many years ago when E was in elementary school, I was up late reading The Pelican Brief when we had a tooth incident! Another whole story in itself!

Karen gave me this award recently…..she’s so sweet to do that! Here’s what it said:

This award is for those bloggers who are nice people; good blogging friends, and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. It is also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world.”

Thanks Karen, I really appreciate it.
I have so enjoyed this blogging journey and one of the biggest parts is having “met” so many of you! Lots of you have gotten this one already……I haven’t met anyone yet who isn’t nice! I so love coming to see you all at your place and enjoy the company at mine. Y’all email me, give me ideas/tips, send me things, answer my questions, leave me comments, talk about my song lyrics! etc. No way for me to narrow it down, I want to give it to everyone I know for being so NICE! Thanks for making it all so fun.

(oh and this one is a Sinatra song, I don’t think Stacy would know it…..I only do because I have one of his cd’s!)

A few weeks ago we went to Alabama one weekend to help our daughter move, she’s still in school there and had to move from one house to a different one with a new roommate. The new house is just a bit smaller but it is very new and a nice place. As I said at the time, we had to bring some things home to store for her here this year……..boxes of kitchen stuff, quite a few framed pictures and maybe a few more random things I can’t think of right now. But I also mentioned that there was one big thing we brought back, the one I’m quite happy to keep this year! Wanna know what it is?

The one about the M&M’s……………

Daughter E had just a little string of bad luck while we were on our trip to Vegas and she’s a “poor starving college grad student”! Her hair dryer broke, security confiscated her brand new 4 oz. bottle of moisturizer at the first airport….apparently she hasn’t flown since last summer and I didn’t tell her about the liquid thing thinking she already knew. She couldn’t afford to replace it so SK was kind enough to buy her some and bring it in her checked suitcase. One day her Clinique pressed powder broke, she couldn’t afford to buy more and then discovered that it was actually Kathryn’s powder so now I feel like I need to replace Kat’s! Her flat iron broke and she couldn’t get the bank to take care of a deposit that she was needing. By then she knew she wouldn’t be able to buy much on the trip but she had wanted to go to M&M’s World to get a specialty bag of candy. They have this huge wall of m&m’s, all in big clear containers; you get a bag and fill it up with whatever you want! It is a bit costly but loads of fun. Oooh check out this pic

Plain, peanut, every color you can think of……we both had fun filling a bag and I think the raspberry ones were my favorite, they actually tasted like raspberries. These stores might be the only place you can get the specialty ones. She worried that day whether to get them right then because we’d be out walking around some going to an exhibit but Kat thought they wouldn’t melt and they didn’t. Shanna bought her kids some cute things at the store too. Here’s a little blurb about M&M’s World at Wikipedia……cool place but we didn’t get our free treat at the end of the 3-d movie!
The m&m’s were the only thing that Liz wanted to buy………..

We got off track with meals here last week because plans kept changing almost daily! Hubby had to go out of town to work and talked me into coming with him so we weren’t here much last week. Maybe it’s good to have a plan even if you can’t always stick to it, it’s something to shoot for. No plans to be gone this week so for right now this is sorta what I’m planning…….

Monday…….baked fish, sesame green beans
Tuesday……chicken, pasta, veggies
Wednesday…church supper
Thursday…..Tomato zucchini tart, corn, salad
Friday…..hamburgers, we’re having a big function at church for kids & youth so we’ll be helping with that meal there

Thanks Laura for hosting us each week!

Most of you probably know that I took a girl’s trip last week, with both daughters and my sweet daughter in law. SK’s little girl called it a “woman’s” trip though because if it was a girls trip then she was supposed to have gone. 😆 Maybe she can go when she gets a bit bigger. We went to Las Vegas, survived the heat and had lots of fun! I’ve been working on getting my pictures transferred from my camera, in between bouts of my internet service going out! They’re on the extended page in case you want to browse……

“..with your neon flashin”

I’m home, after being gone last week on a trip with all my girls! We decided in the spring to do a girls trip this summer and after much deliberation about where to go, Las Vegas was the final decision! Which sounded good in April and May but by the time August rolled around, it sounded way too hot. 😆 We left early Wednesday morning and got home Sunday night……..we had such a fun time! I’m very tired and need to unpack, wash clothes and buy some food for D.
So more on our trip later, hopefully! (Not our video but we did take pictures! These are the fountains at Bellagio)

We had a very busy fun filled weekend! I’m a bit tired but still have tons to do yet. Friday evening we had friends over for burgers with all the trimmings, ice cream and a movie afterward. We watched Letters From Iwo Jima…..it’s similar to the story of Flags of Our Fathers but told from the Japanese perspective. It was pretty good and interesting to see it from another side; we talked about how the Japanese are usually portrayed as a bit cold and kamikaze like but this let you see them as people with some of their back story thrown in as well.
On Saturday……….

“Anna…….The Name Game!”

I got tagged by Coach J for this name meme.

I’m supposed to- write 8 of my blog friend’s names in a unique way and post them. I must include the person who tagged me, and then add 7 more. The instructions said to be creative, and, if possible, use the natural wonders of the world.
I’m not very creative and couldn’t really think of anything original to do. Was also in a bit of a hurry so I used something I had in my fridge, does that count for something natural!
Green grapes and here are the names….

I talked to daughter K this week and found out she was having another sonogram, just to check on things because the baby seems to be measuring bigger than how far along she is. She wanted the dr. to move the due date up earlier but they aren’t going to do that! He just might be a big baby is what they are thinking. Yesterday I called her after the sonogram and she was soooo excited and said, “guess what!” I got to see his FACE! The tech had some extra time after they did the regular sonogram and said they’d play around a few minutes with the 3-D one. I got teary just hearing her excitement and her description of it all. She saw him moving around, his hand moving, chubby cheeks, his little lips smacking, AND………
I’ve got pictures! Be sure to say hello……

This past weekend I drove to Alabama to meet hubby there so we could help one of our daughters move. She’s been in school there for a year, her roommates were 2 friends from Miss. College that she knew well and lived with in the dorm. They are both finished and leaving so E needed to find another place to live. It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that we moved her over there from MS, just moved across town this time. We did some on Friday evening and the rest on Saturday.
Boyfriend C came to help too and there were quite a few trips like this:

Most of the big heavy stuff got moved into her bedroom and we tried to do some organizing to fit things in a little better……
