I finished reading a book recently that was by an author that’s new to me……Wish You Well by David Baldacci. I think the book isn’t new, it’s been out a while and I’m probably the last person around to have read it. I believe he normally writes thrillers or legal thrillers so I may not read many of his other books. This one was more of a southern story set in the Virginia mountains where his mother grew up. It was a little bit different than the usual light, predictable stories I read and I have to say that I enjoyed it very much! The time is 1940, Louisa and Oz lose their father and their mother is unable to care for them. So they’re sent to live with their great-grandmother in the Virginia mountains and must learn to adapt to the hard work and rugged way of life. Told through the eyes of Lou, a precocious 12 year old girl, it’s sort of a coming of age story. I loved the characters, and the descriptions of mountain life and the time era really drew me in. It was a book I sort of savored and hated to see end. If it’s not one you’ve read before, you might enjoy it!
