Well this one loves to go shopping! Which I will get to do this weekend and probably with sister Stacy…..I need some clothes to wear and I always love Target when I’m down that way. I don’t have places like that in my little town. I probably should buy flashlights so that if this happens again I won’t get any more nasty lumps on my head! But nah, flashlights aren’t fun to buy so it’s probably not happening this trip. The boys will play golf because for some odd reason, they don’t like to shop. We’re also going to see our dad because our other sister Suzanne is flying to Mississippi for a visit!
There’s probably other things I should be doing instead but shopping is first up for me this weekend! Hope you’re having fun too.

Mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky…”

They’re the little munchkins in our family! They are altogether cute, but I’m very biased you know. My kids emailed me some pictures from last night so I could see them dressed up and having fun. I’ll share them with you on the extended page, so click below if you’re interested…..

Last night I was upstairs on the computer, talking on the phone and happily reading/commenting on blog posts when out of the blue the lights went out. I was talking to hubby on the phone and told him it was darker than dark, I couldn’t even see my hand in front of my face. You probably wouldn’t know this but I HATE the dark, can’t stand it and get quite a bit panicky when I can see anything! I kept talking, telling him how I couldn’t see anything as I held my hands out in front of me trying to feel my way out of the room, down the hall and stairs. I realized when I was on the stairs that Don was no longer on the phone, my cell phone had gone dead; that’s not supposed to happen when the power goes off is it? I did pretty good on the stairs until I was close to the bottom, I missed a step and stumbled down the last 2-3 stairs. That wasn’t too bad because I didn’t go all the way down on the floor. I looked out the front windows and could not see a thing outside, NO lights anywhere……I’ve never seen it that dark before. And unfortunately it was just as dark downstairs, it seemed darker even. I tried to make my way through the rooms to the kitchen where I could look for matches and candles. I dialed hubby’s phone back and was trying to talk to him again so he might call the power company for me since I could, you know, see nothing! He was having trouble hearing me, the phone was cutting in & out……just as I reached where I thought the drawer was with matches I tripped across something and quicker than a wink I fell face down, knocked my head and broke something off a shelf. He heard me holler and said “do you need help”….”Yes I need you to call the power company!” He only heard yes, disconnected our call and called the neighbors I found out later. I realized as I tried to pick myself up off the floor that I tripped over the door of the dishwasher I’d left open so I could unload it. Arghhh. I did find matches to light a candle because I was beyond panicky at that point and had a nice lump on my forehead. Grabbed my keys and candle, got in the car to drive somewhere, anywhere when I saw the neighbors banging on my front door.
They put my car up and took me across the street, they had flashlights and I didn’t! Because I’m prepared like a boyscout that way. The lights went out ALL over town, not one single place in town had lights, and it was very eerie and darker than I ever remember it being. They gave me an ice pack to put on my lump and while we were sitting in their front room I could see another car drive up in my driveway; I knew it had to be our other best friends because they know I don’t like being by myself. We all sat around for over an hour visiting and hoping the lights would come back on. I finally came back home with borrowed flashlights, found more candles to light and waited for the power to come back on…..eventually it did after about 2 1/2 hours. Then the internet went out and it took it a while to come back on. There were no storms or bad weather so we have no idea why the whole town blacked out.

I was out of town for about two and a half weeks, visiting my daughter and even though I got home last week, I just can’t seem to get caught up on things. Several blog friends awarded something on their blogs and I’m very late in acknowledging those. Both Lynne and Stacy (the other one as she calls herself!) gave me this sweet treat award.

Thanks girlies, y’all are sweet to think of me! I enjoy all y’all’s blogs out there and think all of you are sweet to read too.

I got to meet Jenny this summer and we enjoyed our visit so much……tried to stop in her town on my way to North Carolina but she was on vacation, lucky duck! She gave me this:

Thanks Jenny! You are in inspiration to me.
I so enjoy this blog community and all of you are so welcoming and encouraging, I really enjoy the friendship we share this way.

I know I’m still late and behind in my blog reading and commenting; I’m still working on it and haven’t forgotten about you. Hopefully I’ll have some time this afternoon to read again, but every time I think I’m almost caught up I’ll look in my google reader and y’all will have like 68 new posts!
I’m also going to be really late for a lunch date with some family if I don’t get myself in gear and get going!
What do you have fun planned for today?

Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore?”

Today is my daughter Elizabeth’s birthday! She’s in Alabama right now and we won’t get to see her on her big day so I’m sad about that. Her boyfriend is going to see her though and I’m sure that is way more exciting than seeing the parents. 😆 She loves fall, candy corn, naps, movies, travel, history but she’s tired of school and is so ready for the school year to be over I think. She loves strawberry cake for her birthday but I didn’t make her one this year since I wasn’t going to be able to see her.
I thought about putting a baby picture on here but she might not like me doing that, so I’m using a recent one from this summer……….she still might get me later!
My kids have what they call “birthday rules”…….your birthday is Friday this year E, so hope you have a great weekend!

Our October is on the way to becoming almost as big a birthday month as December is for us…..baby Sam was born 2 weeks ago, sis Stacy’s birthday was last week, Liz is today and my other sis Suzanne’s birthday is tomorrow.

“…12, Ladybugs came to the ladybugs picnic…..” I used to love that little song on Sesame Street, it’s from years ago though when my kids were small. I won’t post the youtube video I found of it but here’s a link to it if you want to watch it. I showed it to Katelyn quite a few times while I was there. And as I mentioned in a previous post, I sewed a Halloween costume for her while I was there to help out with the new baby. Kathryn had seen a picture in a parents magazine for a ladybug costume, with a little girl wearing a red tutu…..I looked at it closer and the tutu cost $50! WHY on earth would anyone pay that much money for a tutu they might wear one time, I certainly wouldn’t do that. It might be easier for me to say that because I sew but this really was pretty easy to do. I was really pleased with how it turned out………

pictures! I’ve got so many that it’s hard to narrow them down…..usually kids and babies make cute pictures. I’ll try not to post all 300 of them or however many I took. Some are duplicates so maybe you’ll only get 200 of them, HA.

This one was in the hospital right after Sam was born, with Kathryn and me.

A few more are on the extended page so click through for the ones I’m posting today…..

We finally made it home late Saturday evening and I slept really good in MY bed! Sunday is just always busy around here so I’m needing to regroup today and get some things done. I’m heading to the store in a few minutes for much needed groceries and hope I can get home before it rains….I’m not fond of lugging groceries bags around in a downpour. I’ve also typed a birth announcement for the paper to drop off. Hubby unloaded the rest of the car last night but it’s all dumped in the middle of the breakfast room floor waiting to be put up, along with plenty of laundry I’m sure! I walked this morning to get that in before the rain and I can tell that I’ve been sporadic with it the last 2 1/2 weeks, I felt slow & sluggish. I’m also slowing getting around to catching up on blog reading too. (I might try to post a few more baby pics too!)
Mondays aren’t always my favorite day but I hope to get most of this done today and feel much better about it all tomorrow! How’s your Monday going and what are you up to today?

I haven’t done a menu in a couple of weeks because I’ve been out of town and not able to post as much! I really feel a need to get back somewhat organized this week so this will give me something to shoot for while grocery shopping.

Monday……Maple Hoisin Salmon, green beans
Tuesday…..Baked chicken, stir fried veggies
Wednesday…church supper
Thursday…..Spaghetti sauce with whole wheat pasta, corn
Friday……..leftovers if we have any or go out to eat or make quesadillas at home!

Hope you have a great Monday. Thanks Laura for hosting this each week.

My time in Charlotte is soon coming to an end and I’m ready to be home! Hubby is flying in on Thursday morning early, will go get new tires for my suburban so I won’t have any more blowouts on my car. He’s anxious to see new baby Sam and after he gets his visit in we’ll be driving home together. I’m ready to get back to my routine…..not that this one is bad at all! Some things are the same: I’ve cooked, cleaned, done laundry, vacuumed, grocery shopped, etc. I’ve also taken Katelyn to the park to play, taken her on errands with me, read books and played with toys. But I’ve really learned a lot about Diego and Dora the explorer….she is so enthralled with them, especially Diego. I’ve watched Diego almost every day for 2 weeks, learned lots of new animals and Spanish words and the words to most of the songs! And did you know that Diego is on almost EVERYTHING in Walmart and Target. Not only toys and books but he’s on yogurt containers, cans of veggies and fruits, juice containers, diapers, wipes…..you can probably find him on almost every aisle, or at least Katelyn can spot him easily. 😆 Then for the whole time we’re in the store mostly what I hear is, “Diego, Diego, Diego!” It’s been so much fun though and I know I’ll miss them all when I’m back home.
Kathryn and I also worked on a couple of sewing projects…..I made the cutest Halloween costume for Katelyn! I can’t wait to show it to you but I’ll probably have to wait until I’m home so I can size the pictures down. And then I’ll have more baby pics too. Hopefully by the weekend I’ll be sleeping in my own bed, trying to get back in the swing of things again! I’m missing you all and want to catch up with you too.

Last Sunday before Kathryn had the baby I was able to go to morning church with them. They’ve had a little bit of a struggle finding a church that felt right for them since they’ve been in Charlotte. The first one they went to for quite a while but decided they needed something a little bigger with more couples their age in it. They tried several over the last year and have gone back to one that they visited first. It’s a pretty big, newer church with contemporary music and services; Kathryn has joined a Bible study during the week where she can meet some other moms with little children. The children’s minister at this church is Marcy Walker, she played a character on the show All My Children and lives in Charlotte now doing church work. She was at the desk when we took Katelyn in to register for the nursery and was greeting people as well. I sort of know who this actress is but it’s not a show I watch,. I think sis Stacy watches sometimes though. Just kind of an interesting tidbit of info!
I always enjoy getting to go with my kids to their churches, I get something totally different than what I get at home! I wore blue jeans when I went, not something I’d do at home…pants yes but not jeans. But I liked it and felt comfortable. The music is a lot more contemporary than at home, a fair size band leading worship. I grew up with very traditional church and now live in a small rural town that’s still pretty much the same way. It’s not the “little brown church in the vale”! It seems to be what attracts younger people today, something more laid back with upbeat music where you don’t have to dress up but can come as you are. I think bigger cities must have a lot of churches like that. I was glad I got to go with them to see the church, Katelyn in the nursery and hear the pastor……it’s good to see something that’s not like anything we have at home. I think I could get used to having services like that to attend but in my hometown, it will probably never happen in my lifetime! I hope they’ve found a place that fits them.

(I never knew this song til I married Don and heard him singing it years ago!)

As I’ve said before, my hat’s off to you girls with kids at home who blog as well! I don’t know how you do all you do…..cook, clean, tend to kids and find time to write. I’ve been doing laundry, meals and playing or taking care of Katelyn and find myself rather tired! I think I’ve finally got a few pictures to share, although it’s been hard to pick just a few. Click through to the extended page if you want to see them…..

New baby Sam made his appearance Monday night a little after 10 eastern time! And what a coming out that was. Mom went into labor after her dr. appointment and went to the hospital around 6 in the evening, things went pretty fast for a while there. They thought he’d be born by 8 o’clock but a shoulder or something got stuck and she had a bit of a time having him. I think it had a lot to do with his size……he weighed 10 pounds 5 ounces and was 23 inches long! Longest baby they’d had born at this particular hospital. They seem to be doing good for now, although they were worried some about his shoulder (it’s ok). The nurse told us they’ll have to check his blood sugar and get a certain reading 3 times and then they’ll know that is ok, first time was good so we’ll find out in the morning how the other readings went. Kat also told me the dr. said that if they had done a sonogram on her at her appointment and they’d known he was that big they would have sectioned her! At this point she doesn’t want to go through that again….hoping she feels better when we see her on Tuesday.
We’ll take Katelyn in to see her new brother! I’ve been taking pictures and if I can get them sized, I’ll put some up. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit you all, we’re just a teeny bit busy at the moment but I did want to thank you all and tell you Sam is here!

Plans were made last week for me (and other family members) to come to Charlotte on Friday when K thought she would have her baby. I would drive to Tuscaloosa, AL to spend the night with my other daughter and then make the rest of the trip Friday. When Kat called Thursday afternoon to say the dr. didn’t help get her labor started I figured I should stay home until something was happening. I quit loading my car and settled in for the evening….then she called back and said Jeremy’s family was coming anyway and that I should come on! It was after dark by then, I was undecided about what to do. Don told me even though it was dark he thought he’d like for me to break the long trip up, so I should go ahead and drive that night to E’s house anyway. By the time I got the rest of my things together it was almost 8:30 before I left. There is one stretch of road before I get into Tuscaloosa that seems a little deserted with no cell phone coverage. I called several friends to let them know I was travelling so they could pray for me, I was worried something would happen to my car after dark. A little after 10 I came upon a license check roadblock around Starkville, MS. No problem, I always have everything with me! He shined his light everywhere, looked at my license and then told me my tag had expired on Monday, argghh! He asked me if I was going to take care of it and I told him I would so he let me go on! The rest of that leg of the trip was uneventful.

Here’s the update for the post I wrote below, about the baby. Kat was to have her membranes stripped Thursday afternoon and all doctors in her clinic agreed she’d go into labor within 24 hours. She’s about 3 cm dilated. At her appointment Thursday the dr. decided he couldn’t do it after all, they were having a shortage of hospital beds! They’ve had a lot of babies born and the few rooms left they needed to keep for patients that went into labor on their own, so they couldn’t do a procedure to voluntarily bring on labor when they had a shortage of rooms. Everything is still a business decision I suppose. Several family members had already decided to come for the weekend since it’s a holiday Monday and she would have the baby this weekend….but alas, no baby yet! I left late Thursday night, spent the night with E and drove to Charlotte on Friday. That was a trip worthy of a blog post all on it’s own, with pictures! But the kids don’t have anything on their computer to size pictures down with so I emailed my sister Stacy to see if she will be ever so kind to me and size one down.
We keep hoping something will happen soon, have done lots of walking but nothing so far. She’ll go back to the dr. Monday morning, she’s wishing they’ll do something to jump start her labor then!

I’ll see if I can tell you later about my very eventful car trip!
