Yo mama, that’s who! Elizabeth came home over the Thanksgiving break; had lots of studying to do, visiting family, sleeping, laundry etc. One of the last things I think she washed was her Easter dress from this past spring. She put it in my machine on the hand wash setting Sunday afternoon and then fell promptly asleep. When she showed it to me Monday morning before she left, it had dark spots on it from where the dark color had bled over to the beige parts of the dress. Argh! I hate when that happens…. I’ve had it happen to me several times before, even if I did take the clothes out of the washer right away.

Mostly we get bills or junk mail but last week I got real mail! These came for me last week…..

I won the Amy Grant book maybe a month or so ago and had almost forgotten about it (from so many books blog) The other one was one of Katrina’s book give aways. (It’s signed by the author) Both of those came the same day and the Michael W. Smith cd came the next day! The books will probably have to wait until after Christmas before I can start them……the music is already being enjoyed. More on that later. Some days are good days for mail. 🙂

Recently I showed a picture of some fabric I’d bought and I’ve been working on this project trying to get it finished. I’ve been sewing for a long time but quilts/blankets are not something I really know how to do; I’m just now sort of learning. Mine isn’t very fancy and won’t really be that much to people who know how to do the real thing but I’m happy with the way it turned out!

I’m not sure about planning this week, some of our plans as far as meals seem to be up in the air! But maybe at least this will give me something to shoot for.

Monday…..night off!
Tuesday…..chicken wraps and fruit, if my child makes it home this night!
Wednesday..Shrimp and wild rice casserole, veggie
Thursday…..Thanksgiving! We’ll eat with my sister Stacy and family at her house and I need to find out from her what all I’m bringing. The only thing I know of for sure right now is Squash Dressing…..I’m sure there will be other things so might update later.
Friday…..Crockpot cranberry chicken, creamed potatoes and some veggie to be determined later!

If I need another meal for the weekend I might cook this Vegetable Rice Stew, easy to do at the last minute.

Hope you have a good week and wonderful Thanksgiving!

We don’t always get a lot of the spectacular fall colors that other parts of the country get, (maybe because we’re a little too far south) and this year the color has seemed slow in coming. We haven’t had a ton of cool weather so that might have something to do with it. But I noticed while walking this week that there were a few trees that looked especially pretty to me with the bright sun shining on them. I’ll put a couple of pictures on the extended page….

A few months ago I bought a new coffeemaker…..my kids that were home visiting told me I needed a newer one, one that could be programmed the night before. So I did get a new one; Stacy kindly took me to Sam’s and I bought one just.like.hers., because she says I want to be just like her when I grow up! I go through spurts of using it and lately I’ve been in the on again mode of drinking coffee. I’m way more into what goes IN the coffee rather than the coffee itself; I’ve never really been a true coffee lover as in loving the coffee and drinking it black.

woof, woof, woof, woof.” That was a mighty fine game I saw on tv today! Our Mississippi State Bulldogs beat Alabama! I got to hear this quite a few times. My daughter, the Alabama student, asked me yesterday if we were ready to get beat! Fun game for us E, sorry you missed it.

“A purple sky to close the day, I wade the surf where dolphins play, The taste of salt, the dance of waves…And my soul wells up with hallelujahs

I was listening to this on my ipod yesterday while walking and remembered this picture I’d taken a little while back. It’s not great photography because it’s through my window while I was zipping down the highway one evening on the way home. If it shows up, it is sort of purple and neat with the shadow or streak through the sky! I’m basically at a loss today for something to write, so it’s a picture instead.

I’ve noticed over the last year and a half that when Kathryn or Jeremy read books to Katelyn, they read aloud whatever is on the cover and title page before starting the book. So if they’re reading Pajama Time, along with reading that title they’ll also say, by Sandra Boynton, Workman Publishing. Or Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, pictures by Clement Hurd, published by Harper Collins. I’m not really sure why they do that! I may remember seeing Trent and Shanna do the same thing with their kids. I think I’ve asked them about it in the past but at the moment whatever they told me has escaped my mind.
But it got me thinking about the way I read books…and I may not be all that different in what I do! I pretty much read a book cover to cover; the acknowledgments, who the author dedicated the book to or thanked and anything about the author. I sometimes scan the page with the publishing info on it. If there are discussion questions in the back I always read those; it sometimes helps me see things a bit differently or get even more from the book. Recently I finished My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult and there was a Q & A with her in the back that I found interesting. She told how her 12 year old son had read the book and was mad at her for a while when he got through with it because of the ending. (I’m still trying to figure out why she’d let her 12 yr. old read that book!) But I like to know what an author has to say about their book. For some reason I don’t think I’ve gotten everything out of it unless I’ve read it all……so I guess I read the book, the whole book and nothing but the book!
It’s the same way for me with movies/dvd’s. I watch the previews that are at the beginning (I might find another movie I want to see!) and after the movie is over, we usually watch any extras and special features that are on the dvd. Some movies have had really good documentary type things, if the movie was based on a true story. Many of them have bloopers that are funny. Or they’ll have the writer and producers talking about why they did scenes a certain way or how they cast the movie, etc. Evan Almighty had a lot of “green” type info and tidbits in their extras but they also told how they filmed the movie with all those different animals, that was fun to watch. When they filmed parts of it in Virginia, the director gave everyone on the set bikes to ride around so they wouldn’t have to use cars/trucks so much! Just interesting bits of trivia is maybe why I’m like that but I feel like I have to click around and find out what’s on the whole dvd before I return it or I feel cheated out of seeing the whole thing!
I wonder if anyone else does the same thing as me…..hopefully I’m not the only one. 😆 Tell me about you; do you read or watch the whole thing with all the extra or just the main thing?

Several of you commented that you wanted to see what I bought when I went shopping last week. I’m sad to say that I found nothing, absolutely nothing! I had a great time being with Stacy and going in different stores but for some reason I just couldn’t find anything worth getting. We went to Hattiesburg on Saturday to see our Dad and sister Suzanne who’d flown in to visit him for a few days so went spent the day there. We all went out to lunch at Leatha’s, a barbecue place that’s been written about several times, including Southern Living. We had fun doing that but I don’t have pictures from there because my camera battery died. So I did buy a battery Saturday and a jug of detergent but I don’t think those really count for a shopping trip! This morning I decided to go to a neighboring town to look around a little bit and today, well today was A Horse of a Different Color!
