“And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak”
I called hubby yesterday and gave him a mission; find a fruit & vegetable stand in the town he works in and bring me home some REAL tomatoes! Those are one of my favorite things about summer, haven’t had any yet and couldn’t stand it any more. I’ve seen several of you put blt’s on your menu and I was determined to fix them this week. Oooh, he brought me these……
He came in with them last night, I already had supper done. This morning we were discussing trying to organize meals for a church member who’d had surgery. Before he left for work I told him I was fixing their dinner tonight but that WE would be having BLT’s for our supper. D called me when it was almost supper time and asked me if I had the BLT’s ready yet! I don’t usually tell him in the morning what we’re having that night but he’d been thinking about it all day since I’d said that and he was wanting his BLT! (I really think he wanted to be sure they’d be ready for him to eat so he could run right out to the golf course)
While I made a meal for our friends, I did bacon in the microwave for us……..I nuke it because we use turkey bacon and it seems to make it crisper in the microwave, easier too! I know it might not be a real blt to you with turkey bacon but it’s what we have at our house. We only have real bacon like once a year, it’s just not in our diets anymore. We’re used to it and we like it. And my sandwich was very good! It was almost worth waiting this long to have real tomatoes.
I ate mine before he got in because I couldn’t wait any longer! I had a few roasted sweet potatoes left over from the meal I carried so we had a few of those….I haven’t made them in a while and they were excellent too. I have a great recipe in case you ever want to try them.
Yes I ate mine on the oh so classy paper plate……..D had 2 sandwiches and likes what he calls a “hard” plate, so his might have looked better.
For 2 nights now I’ve fixed his plate, he’s eaten it in the truck while I drive him to the golf course. Then when we get there he tells me, “go get my cart please and bring it back to the truck while I finish eating” Which I do and then drive him around to where he wants to go and then I go look for his stray golf balls. I think he might owe me big time! Maybe more than tomatoes.
But for now, “I’m in heaven” with real tomatoes.

LOL!!!! Too funny about your husband, eating in the truck, and having you get the cart! Yep, more tomatoes are in order for that! I am so glad you finally got your tomatoes! I have felt so bad for you, not having any. Enjoy them!!!

OOOOOHHH! REAL tomatoes are big at our house, too. Personally, I don’t eat tomatoes unless they are cooked in something but, boy, my husband does. We like to make a trip to the farmer’s market on Sat. mornings to get them. My grandparents usually grow enough to keep us well supplied but his garden didn’t grow well this year. My husband says there’s nothing better than a BLT with REAL tomatoes!!:)
And your husband does owe you big!:)

It’s 7 in the morning and I’m craving a BLT! We use turkey bacon too – I’ve gotten to the point that it tastes the same to me as “real” bacon.
You know, I have bread, lettuce, bacon and some tomatoes (unfortunately store bought) right now in the kitchen…See you later!

aaaah…real tomatoes! There is nothing better than a BLT with fresh tomatoes. I think that will have to be added to my menu this week!

I’m with you – fresh tomatoes are the BEST! And your pictures are making me incredibly hungry!

I can’t tell you how glad I am that you finally got your tomatoes. I picked up some the other day that I thought were home grown, but they taste like store bought. I’m throwing them out and heading to the farmer’s market on Saturday. Those blt’s look wonderful–and you are an awesome wife!

I’m with Elizabeth – looks good if you take that tomato off! I was going to ask if you splurged on “real” bacon but I see you ate your regular turkey bacon. Doesn’t this big of an occasion call for the real, artery-clogging stuff?! 🙂
Be careful driving that souped up golf cart, you could hurt somebody, Mario Andretti!

I’m ashamed to say I’ve never tried turkey bacon. Suppose I should, now that I know it exists. Gee–thanks Gail. Heehee.
Glad you enjoyed!

I LOVE vine ripened tomatoes too. Please tell me that we will also have real bacon in heaven. Please! And that it won’t count. And that we won’t have to have our cholesterol checked every year, or take that silly pill before we go to bed every night. OH, my. I’ve shared too much.

Oh that’s too funny! He eats on the way to the golf course!! 🙂 You guys crack me up.
He needs some golf balls like Jeff just got…”A Free Golf Ball, Compliments of Jeff ******” I cracked up when I saw them (his uncle sent them for a b-day gift) and he’s already ordered more.

LOVE “real” tomatoes!!!! I’m having a BLT salad tomorrow for lunch. Salads are easier to take than sandwiches when it comes to tomatoes. Oh, I use turkey bacon as well. I like the crispiness!
