“There was a telephone and a red balloon and a picture of-
the cow jumping over the moon………..
Goodnight room, Goodnight Moon!”
Do you know the book?!
It’s a book I will probably never forget. It was read over and over for many years at our house, very much an all time favorite. As we would read it we’d use softer & softer voices, hoping to lull them to sleep I guess. All 4 of our kids loved it and we went through quite a few copies if I remember correctly! When my oldest child was just a baby or toddler, my mother in law made him a pillow for his bed using a scene from the book, we’ve always called it the Goodnight Moon pillow. I’ve kept it all this time because, well because I seem to keep way too many things, it was made for him and because I couldn’t bear to throw it out! I had been thinking for a while that I need to give it to Grayson, thought he might enjoy it or maybe Trent would enjoy him having it! The cover was in pretty good shape but the pillow on the inside had broken down a bit. Before I went to Texas I bought a new pillow to go inside the pillow cover and got it all fixed up for Grayson. He was sorta excited about it! I didn’t realize until I got home that I didn’t get a pic of him with it but here’s the goodnight moon pillow!
We didn’t have a green room when Trent was little, he had blue so it matched his room! It stayed on his bed for many years while he was growing up. I’m glad that we kept it and could pass it along!
“Goodnight stars, goodnight air, goodnight noises everywhere.”

I’ve heard lots about this book, but never read it. I’m glad you could pass that pillow along, too.

What a precious pillow! I loved the Goodnight, Moon book and so did my kids. My favorite memory is listening to my Dad read it to my daughter. Whenever I read the book now, I hear it in his voice.
And. . . did you know there’s a Fr. Tim trilogy coming out next?? The first chapter is at the end of Light from Heaven. So we don’t have to say good-bye to Fr. Tim.

That’s the only children’s book I have in my no-kid-zone house, you know π I love that book too, and have read it to your kids, as well as all of our other nieces and nephews.
Cute pillow, I remember that. I’m so glad you saved it and fixed it up for Grayson. It won’t mean as much to him now, but that’s ok. He’ll appreciate it one day (although I think girls notice these things more than boys). You know how sentimental I am about things like this. I think it’s a direct by-product of our mom not keeping a single thing of ours. It makes me the ultimate pack-rat π
P.S. Have you broadened your scope from song titles to book titles now?! I guess that’s still considered “more than a song”!!! π

Oh….that is SO sweet, Gail. I love the little pillow!
I had always heard of the book but believe it or not, never actually read that particular one until I picked up a copy at a yard sale for my youngest. (And I use to be a preschool teacher- hard to believe that book escaped me!)
Both girls loved it.
Then, at a rummage sale, I found a board game of Goodnight Moon and bought that. It was a hit.
My favorite is Runaway Bunny- the same illustrater (and I think author)…
Anyway, sorry to ramble…so glad your grandchild can now love that little pillow!

This was the first book I ever read to my son. I think he was about 2 days old!

I wanted to tell you that I am about 100 pages in to “Memory Keeper’s Daughter” and I love it! Hope you do too.

This is one of our favorite “growing up” books. Corderoy is the other! When I find out someone is having a baby , I usually get this book for them. Did y’all look for the mouse in each picture?

Hi Gail,
Thought I’d return the visit…thanks for coming over to my blog. I absolutely know what it’s like when hubby is away. I’d wing it more that not…scrambled eggs, tuna, etc. when he wouldn’t be home for supper. π
I had to comment on this post because I posted on this exact thing about a week or two ago. I have some sweet pictures of my baby boy (named Trenton!!) reading the book with daddy and then sleeping in his bed. We love the book.
The pillow is really sweet! Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never read the book either. I think it was written after my kids were small.
My favorite kid’s book was a Little Golden Book called THE TINY TAWNY KITTEN. Those books used to be 25 cents each. I had a huge collection – I started buying them when I was first pregnant with Susan. I wonder how much they are now?
