Sister Stacy called this morning and wanted to know if I wanted to come see her today; our Dad was going to drive to her house and I could go eat lunch with them. I had to make a quick decision since it was 9:30, 90 miles & a 1 1/2 hr. drive away! Hubby was going to be close by there for a golf lesson and a dermatologist appt. to get a skin cancer place cut off, so on the spur of the moment I decided to ride with him. (Sometimes the spontaneous trips are the best.) Stacy came to pick me up, literally on the side of the highway. We ate lunch at Jason’s Deli (yummy!) and then went with Dad to Sam’s. I don’t always think that they have the best prices on every item but I did buy one thing that I’ve bought there in the past……..a HUGE bag of bread flour! It always seems like a good idea at the time; you know, 25 lbs for just over $5. Can’t get it that cheap in the grocery but when I get it home I wonder if I’ve lost my mind. I’ll leave it in this big bag until early next week when I feed my starter and make bread again. But then I’ll have to put it all in several big ziplock bags and freeze it. I think it lasted quite a while the last time I bought it but I sort of remember thinking that I wouldn’t buy this big bag again! But today, I did…………and I hope I’m glad of it next week!

Oh my goodness…I would have a time using that much flour! 🙂 I noticed you are planning to read Angels Fall by Nora Roberts. Are you a fan? I sure am!!! Did you see Lifetime is airing like 4 of her books to movies starting Monday? I can’t wait and I need to read that book by then!!!

Wow! 25 Lbs is a lot of flour. The bag seemed to keep growing as I paged down! lol Nice that you have a starter though, you must make a lot of bread! 🙂
Glad you got to see you sister and Dad, and I agree that the spur of the moment trips are sometimes the very best! Hope you hubby is doing well! 🙂

Oops indeed! That’s a huge bag of flour – I see lots of homemade bread in your future! I think I’ll get my machine going tomorrow. And a day with your sis – sounds nice.

Well, we make bread every week, and you have a ton of room to keep it, and it’s like incredibly cheaper to buy that. I pay about that price or more for two small bags in the grocery, and that is only like 10 pounds. But, you’re right, it would be a pain to break it up into smaller ziploc bags.
🙂
Glad you got to come, it was fun! Come back again and we’ll do more shopping!

Ok, you buy the largest bag possible and I buy the smallest bag possible & I still can’t use it all. Guess I need to cook more, huh?

Hi Gail, Looks like you’ll be busy with all that flour. That would be a nightmare for me. I live in south Alabama. About 100 miles below Montgomery, and about 70 miles from Panama City, Fla. It has been a little warmer here, but they are predicting more freezing again next week. YUCK!! Have fun with the flour.

I do the same thing when I go to Sam’s. I see something at the store for a great price and I buy it. When I get home, I wonder how in the world I will store it. I do this most often with meat or freezer items. We don’t have a deep freezer so I wind up having to cram everything in.

Looks like you’ll be in the kitchen from now until spring, baking away! LOL 🙂
Have a great week, Gail!

I think this huge bag of bread flour is wonderful! I make bread two or three times a week so I’d go through it pretty quickly. We shop at Sam’s because if you know what to buy and what’s not such a great deal, it’s a great place to shop. But you need extra freezer space and a pantry, both of which I’m fortunate enough to have. It never occurred to me to look at the flour. I’ll sure be looking at it next trip!
