For many years now I’ve had an item from Tupperware that I think is called a pastry mat. I didn’t use it for a long time but in the last few years I’ve been using mine when I make my sourdough bread each week. I take my risen dough out of the bowl and plop it onto the mat to knead and get ready for the pans. It comes in very handy for that task. I’m pretty sure it’s not made from silicone because I believe that is a more recent thing. I’m never quite sure what is the best way to clean it and take care of it. So here’s my question! I was wondering if any of you out there have one, if you use it and how do you clean it? Anyone got an answer for me?
“I’ve got the question, I’ve had it for days……..I’ve got the answer dear”
Do you know it?
update: Ok, maybe I should have asked, have any of you washed it in the dishwasher? Mine is big, won’t fit in the sink very good and it’s hard to get it unrolled all the way and in the sink to wash so I was just wondering if it could be done in the dishwasher. Does anybody have one and use it?

I do that but it doesn’t fit in my sink good, it’s hard to get opened up in the sink etc…..so I was wanting to see if anyone had any other ideas….

Well, I have the same Tupperware one, but maybe a few years newer (mine is blue). I’ve had it about 9 years and have only ever washed it in the sink, never tried it in the dishwasher. But, then again, I have a crappy dishwasher 🙂
I just roll it around in the sink to cover it all after using it for my bread, then roll it up scroll style (two rolls) and put it up longwise on a towel to dry.
Sorry, no help!

My mom used to have one of those, but it has disappeared somewhere! I was going to suggest the same thing Stacy did…wrap it around the sink…or I guess you could always take it outside and hose it down!

I guess I’ll just keep washing it in the sink then….I sorta do the same thing as Stacy but it makes a mess!
Take it outside and hose it down! That’s sort of a family joke here Claire, Don used to do that with our kids! I hope they don’t remember it…..but we have pictures!

Don’t have answers, but I have a question: do you have a good sourdough bread recipe? Do you use it in the bread machine? I’ve been looking for one.

Michelle, my sourdough bread is the kind where you feed starter each week and then make bread. I don’t have one for a bread machine. 🙁

Well you’ve been kind enough to comment on my blog several times, but each time I clicked on your profile I didn’t see you had a blog. Until I saw a link to it on Stacy’s site! Oops, I guess you don’t have a Blogger one, now it make sense. I’ll be by more often, now that I’ve figured things out. And no help here on the plastic thing. I think my mom had one eons ago for the occasional pie she made but I’ve never owned one.
