Thursday Thirteen #3
Thirteen Things We’ve Seen/Done on Family Vacations
in no particular order:
1. Grand Canyon…….hiked to the bottom, spent the night & hiked back out next day; with 4 kids! It was hot, 118 degrees and hard to do but so worth it.
2. Yellowstone National Park……hiked & camped, it was 28 degrees at night in August! It’s a great park.
3. New York City……..to see Broadway plays, shop & see the sights. I love it there!
4. Disneyworld…..been several times & with 4 kids you’ve got to go there, right!
5. Rented an RV and drove through California, Oregon and Washington; saw Yosemite, Sequoia, Redwood, & Crater Lake National parks among other things. With 4 kids & 2 parents in an RV, a fun time! It might be one of the kid’s most favorite things we did.
6. Snow skiing in Snowmass/Aspen, Colorado……we have skiied many places but this is probably our favorite.
7. Washington D.C. and all the usual tourist spots there; gotta love the nation’s capital!
8. Grand Teton National Park….white water rafted on the Snake River while there.
9. Smoky Mountains…….encountered a big black bear & 2 cubs while hiking a trail in the mountains.
10. Gettysburg Battlefield, Antietam Battlefield, Monticello & other historical sites in Pennsylvania, Maryland & Virginia……the youngest thought it was one long boring field trip, the rest of us loved it!
11. Niagara Falls….saw both American & Canadian sides; rode Maid of the Mist & did the walk called Journey Behind the Falls.
12. Glacier National Park….did an 8 mile hike to a glacier & drove the Going to the Sun road.
13. Destin, Florida…..typical beach vacation; we aren’t beach people so we don’t go very often!
Left some places out; it made me realize how blessed & lucky we’ve been to travel and take the kids to see so many things!

You have done some very cool things. When I was 11 I went cross country camping from Fl to CA and back with my Aunt, Uncle and cousin. We pulled a pop-up camper behind us! I saw lots of the things you mentioned and love those memories to this day! Thanks for sharing, great list!

I’ve done a holiday-related T13 too!
The Grand canyon sounds AWE-SOME. I would absolutely love to go, I feel I have some kind of affinity with the desert…
… But I also love water, so Niagara Falls sounds good to me too! And New York… Man, I love that city.
Happy TT!

Hey girl…
I am doing the 101 in 1001 days and one of the things I wanted was a list of vacation spots so that we could do them in an organized way while our kids were still with us. Unless you come to my blog and tell me that I can’t use it for ideas for my list (I gave you credit, obviously) I am going to put them there. as part of my idea bank. Feel free to just put your {no you can’t post it there” it in my TT for today (you’ve already been there…thanks) if it’s not OK. What an awesome and fun family you are!

Oh, your 13 makes me yearn for a vacation. Although today is our anniversary, the restaurant to eat tonight is as far as we’ll be going! We went off for our 39th and 40th anniversaries, but too many things happening to take the ‘money’ these days!
Thanks for visiting my site.

Hey Gail,
Yes, I’m a Mississippi Girl! I live on the Gulf Coast now (close to Pascagoula). I read some of your posts…are your from the delta? My dad was a minister, and so we moved around a lot. I lived in Greenville at one time…that was my delta experience! Nice to find someone blogging from MS!
July 6th, 2006 at 7:47 pm
Wow, you have been on some incredible vacations! My husband and I daydream about renting an RV and driving around the country (especially the West). And I grew up in Tampa, FL, practically grew up at Disney World, but still can’t seem to get enough of the place. No doubt I will be taking my kids (the ones I don’t have yet) for a visit with the grandparents one day. And Destin is a great place to go for a beach vacay π
July 6th, 2006 at 8:55 pm
What great vacation spots. I would love to go to Yellowstone. My DH is from Wyoming and went often. We are planning to take our family there one day. I love the mts. We spent our honeymoon in the Smokies in Gatlinburg, how scary to see a black bear and cubs, momma bears can be so fierce! Glad you weren’t hurt. I love the beach, DH doesn’t, but his family does, so we have gone. My Uncle lives in Panama City actually, so we stay with him quite a bit. Thanks for stopping by today!
